Smaller Pulley...a feasible option??

The company where I purchased my high-output alt. stated that I should try putting a smaller pulley on it so that I get higher output at idle.

Is this possible with my 2.8 Supreme? If so, where would I get one?

THANKS!:)

Did you ever find out what the electrical problem was? Was it the alt not producing enough juice at idle?

The smaller pulley will certainly make the alt spin faster but you have to keep in mind that when the engine is spinning at, say, 4000 rpm, the alt will think it is spinning at 5500 or higher. Keep in mind that these numbers are completely arbitrary and your actual situation will differ but the alt will spin faster at ALL engine speeds. Just make sure you don't spin the alt faster than it likes.

As for the smaller pulley, I'm not sure where you could find a one. Measure the diameter and how many ribs it has then go to a parts place and see if they have a smaller one.

One thing I don't understand about this issue is this:

If I get a smaller pulley, will my serpentine belt not become looser/less tight??

'Cause right now my belt is really nice and tight!, I don't want to sacrifice that at all...

Will I have to get a smaller belt as well or something??

THANKS

Depends on how small the pulley is and how much more slack your tensioner can take up. Usually the tensioner can take up something like 6" of slack so don't worry too much about the pulley. Once you put the belt back on the tensioner will pull all the slack right out.
