Replacing starter on a 3.1

What a pain in the ass compared to my 3100's. So, what all more do i need to move out of the way to make this possible to do, and how? I'm guessing the coil packs, but how?

You don't need to remove anything except the starter, just pull the two bolts, the wire connections, and it'll fall out.

I didnt remove my coils when I changed mine. You just have to "play" with it for a while. Some jerking and stuff like that was involved. It was hard to get out once it was lose from the block. It'll come, you just have to play with it

How in the hell did you guys get any tools in there to get the nuts loose? Theres also this plug thats right in front of the starter too, making it even more of a pain in the ass.

I can get on the bolts no problem. The only thing in the way when taking it out is the a/c lines run inder it. Just turn the starter on end and it'll come out easy.

Don't make me drive out there to do it.

Damnit, i know its easy to do. But there is this humongous plug right in the way. I can get the small nut off but not the larger one to get it all unplugged, but i have an idea on how to get it out now.

i actually fished mine up thru the top after i got it all unbolted and the wires disconnected. the whole job took less than 1/2 hour.

When I changed mine i had to take off the oil filter cause it was in the way of pulling it out(I HAD TO CHANGE THE OIL ANYWAY)

Heh, I can relate!!! I had a helluva time fishing a new starter into the 88. The 2.8 starters had an even bigger solenoid so it was an even bigger PITA than a 3.1.

take your oil filter out - it makes life A LOT easier, although it can be done without doing that... butonce the filter is out, it is cake...
