gp w/ 3.1or 3.4

i have been looking for a tg,tgp,or something on that line and have heard bad things about the 3.4 and thier timeing belt idealers and such . what would be the best for a lower budget driver?

that is not leaveing out the cutlass , lumina.i notice that some get the 3.1 and some got the 3.4, but the 3.4 looks to be a sob to work on got an opinion on this talk to me

i love the 3.4 but if you go to look at a car with one take a 10mm (or is it 8mm) socket and pull the timeing belt cover and inspect it. if it has "hair" arround it, it WILL need replaced. and the alternator, it took me 13 hours to change it. however now that i did it once i bet i could do it in under 4 hours. i guess if you want a car with the 3.4 you should be friendly with the wrench. but as far as the 3.1 goes, they seem to be able to run and run through years of neglect. and are prety peppy.

I haven't owned either engine, but their both good. All engines require maintenance, DOHC engines are just a little pickier than pushrod engines. If you want power and a w-body, the 3.4 is probably the cheapest/easiest way to acquire it. And there is a wealth of knowledge right here about that engine.

The 3.1 is so much easier to take care of. You can negelect it more than a 3.4. When I notice something unusual on my 3.4 I always check it out soon cause I wan't to fix it ASAP so I don't fuck anything up.
