schafbo Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 how do i loosen the belt on the 3.4 DOHC? the tensioner pulley is right above the crank pulley right?? Quote
rudefyet Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 um... i don't believe you can....the tensioner pulley automatically adjust to tighten the belt...there are 3 small marks on the tensioner pulley..they look kinda like this > < > they indicate if you need a new belt...if between the two marks your good but otherwise you need a new belt on the other hand if your just asking how to loosen it to remove it from one of the accesories or something...grab a crowbar...jam it between the tensioner and the crankshanft pulley and pry up Quote
schafbo Posted February 21, 2004 Author Report Posted February 21, 2004 yeah nm i got the belt off. now i'm just having trouble getting the old pulley out. there isn't any place to hold the flywheel/pulley like FFP says on the DOHC (http://fastfwdperformance.com/udinfo.htm) Quote
mfewtrail Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 Remove the drive plate inspection cover and wedge a screwdriver in the ring gear teeth(try not to scar them up if possible...might be a good idea to put something soft over the end of the screwdriver) to hold the crank pulley stationary. You should be able to get the bolts out in this manner, an assistant would greatly help, you're probably going to need a steering wheel/vibration damper puller to get the pulley off the crank if you can't gently tap it off. I used the above mentioned puller when removing the crank pulley from a 3.4 before and it worked great. Quote
