slick
From what to what? What years? What engines?
CB38_11
The car is an '89 Grand Prix i don't remember the engine type. i think i saw 2.8 on the engine thing. sry i'm not very smart when it comes to identifying the car parts. i'm pretty sure that the engine part of the car is the big metal part that has a number on it. and the number says 2.8 on it. he was planning on swaping with another Grand prix i think but but i'm not sure. i'm sry if i am not helping at all i may just be blabbing on and on. jeremy
not to be rude, but if don't know anything about cars, you shouldn't be concerned with doing tranny swap
slick
I'd have to agree with Jeremy on this. If you don't really know that much about them, don't attempt to do this. It will be a lot of work.
digitaloutsider
I have to agree with both of 'em. If you don't even know what size engine you have, or you don't know much about cars, you shouldn't be considering a tranny swap. It's a VERY intensive process. I suggest finding some custom fabricators if you want that done.
89oldscutlass
Do you have any friends that know how to work on cars? If you do then I say go for it. Have a friend that knows what hes doing be there with any problems you might have come up. Everybody has a first time working on a car. Just do your research on the tranny swap your wanting to do and have a good repair manual beside you. Now as far as busted knuckels and alot of cussing, well thats normal on most cars. Guest Anonymous
not to be rude, but if don't know anything about cars, you shouldn't be concerned with doing tranny swap Do any of you guys work on your own cars? If so, did you know everything when you started? I doubt it, so if he wants to learn then give him advice or don't waste bandwidth.

slick
I'll admit that i've learned stuff as i've worked on my car, but I would never take on something like this without atleast knowing whats all involved.
Guest TurboSedan
when i swapped in my 5-speed i had never worked on a FWD car before. i had swapped one RWD tranny before and that was in an '81 Malibu Classic that i used to have. i had NO idea what i was getting into at the time. i didn't even have a complete 5-speed parts car for reference; all i had was a ton of parts. i've had my Getrag out of the car like 3 times already and have done everything myself. it was a big learning process but it's not like you have to be a professional mechanic just to swap a transmission. i have to admit tho, the forum saved my ass. joshua
GP1138
She's just curious, because I told her I was gonna do a 5speed swap on my car, I think she just wants to know exactly what to do. She's my girlfriend, I have (had) the Grand Prix with the 2.8.
