grandprix89
hey to all.. ok i have a grandprix 89 with automatic, 4 speed, 2.8 L v6 engine, the problem is with my tranny, whenever is really cold outside, it seems like it doesn't want to shift into second gear, th ecar starts fine, i put in drive and start driving..but the car is stuck in first gear so i can't go more than 30-40kph...and after a while..maybe 1 km or so..it will shift normally and won't do this until the following day (overnight) if it's realy cold outside...i have to idea what could be the problem the ATF fluid is new and topped out....i also realised that my TCC either doesn't engage at all or engages at very low speed around 5 MPH...could this be the problem?..i could disconnect it but i dunno where the electrical connector is....any suggestions? thanx in advance.. Bake82
Do you let the car warm up at all? Or are you one of those people who just jump in their car start it and go in the middle of winter?? If you don't let it warm up, let it warm up, that might help your problem...ofcourse if you do let it warm up, I have NO CLUE.
pblunt_
My dad just fixed a problem like that recently with his trans on a 89 CS. When it's cold it wouldn't shift into second easily but would do so fine after moving around alittle when it warms up. He fixed his by flushing the trans fluid and refilling it. Don't know why that worked but it did.
PaPaPooh
sounds like vacuum or it is to cold to where the viscosity of the fluid is to high definatly let it warm up see if that fixes the problem
grandprix89
ok i forgot to mention that...i always let my car warm up before driving..it's very stupid to start the car and leave right away..in summer for about 3 min...but in winter as long as 15 min if it's really cold ..and also the fluid has been changed last summer and its level is good..any other suggestion?..thanx
89oldscutlass
Sounds like your pump is going out or your seals in your tranny are bad. One of my cuttys did the same thing. I changed the filter and tranny fluid and it only helped the problem for a short time. Where I have been working on my blue cutlass and the Monte I havent had time to get back to working on the other cutlass.
