Why no W-body wagons?

I wonder if GM ever planned to build a W-body wagon? Would look and handle better than an SUV or minvan. Ford makes Taurus / Sable wagons, but they are a bit fugly.

is the lumina APV considered a W body?

The APV body is different; plastic panel on metal frame construction. Not sure if the mechanicals are the same.

I thought most of those minivans were the same...or close to our cars. Same engines and stuff. Not sure though. I remembers eeing something recently about that on here somehwere

I don't know what body style it is but I saw a brand new Firebird Wagon at The Woodward cruise. It looked like a new nomad

I think at the time, they may have decided there was not enough demand for a wagon.

Minivans were made very popular by the Dodge Caravan in 1985(?). By then almost everyone who wanted a wagon, was buying a minivan instead. So by 1990 when the W-body sedan came out, I think they saw very little market to develop a W-body wagon and instead, modified the W-body platform into the U-body minivans. In fact, I believe 1st model year for the minivans was also 1990. The Chevy version even having the same name of "Lumina" as its car counterpart.

Useless knowledge: You can get Bilstein struts for the Minivans. Same PN for X-Bodies/A-Bodies.

PN B46-1019 for rear

PN S36-0203 for front
