m0sh_man Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 when i turn the key, its just like when you try to start a car without the clutch being pushed in, (mine is a stick shift BTW) 91 grand prix GTP 3.4L 5 speed, the car was all charged up after it sat for a month waiting on me to get a new engine for its old knocking engine, well my mechanic lives 1/2 mile from me, so i was going to drive it over, to have the newer motor put in, However the car now wont start, it doesnt even trigger the starter, I have no idea what is wrong with it. anyone have any suggestions? i checked all the fuses already. matthew Quote
slick Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 This may sound dumb, but is your battery good? Quote
m0sh_man Posted February 5, 2004 Author Report Posted February 5, 2004 as far as i know it is, everything inside the car was working, all lights, headlights, annoying ding bell, when the key is in the ignition with the door open.... i tried an extra battery in it just to make sure. matthew Quote
topless94style Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 Does the starter spin at all, or nothing happens? check your connections, you may also have a bad starter. Quote
m0sh_man Posted February 5, 2004 Author Report Posted February 5, 2004 the starter itself doesnt even click like its getting signal, Ive checked the clutch switch and it appears to be in working condition, i jumpered its wires and it made no change. im totally stumped here. matthew Quote
DOHCRagtopguy Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 Give the starter a whack and then try it. Maybe the brushes are hanging up. Quote
topless94style Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 Take a screw driver and jump the terminals on the starter, see if it does anything. If you tried that and it didnt, then its probably dead. Check the battery terminals and make sure they are clean, like mentioned above. Quote
