calys968 Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 For the past couple days my car has been getting horrible gas mileage and has been running very sluggish(slow acceleration,etc.). It's giving a code of 43 and when I looked it up in my book it said it could be a bad knock sensor. Autozone said they can test it if I pull it out of the car and bring it to them...how hard is it to pull out? If the knock sensor is bad I won't be able to buy a new one until next Friday...would it be okay to drive my car that long before replacing it or should I be trying to find another way to get to work? Thanks in advance for any replies. Quote

89oldscutlass Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 I seen the three post I was agreeing with you. Oh the knock sensor isnt that hard to replace but when it goes out completly it wont be drivable. Quote
calys968 Posted February 5, 2004 Author Report Posted February 5, 2004 Thanks for the help. And I deleted the extra posts...I'm still new to using these boards so if I mess up like that again could you send me a private message letting me know instead of just making fun of me? Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 the plug for my knock sensor is broken, and when the connector falls off i can hardly tell it runs any different besides being a little slower. the SES light comes on, but the engine still runs smoothly. it's not very hard to get to, just be careful when you disconnect it and not break the plug. mine was really brittle and crumbled away when i disconnected it :? joshua Quote
dkorinko Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 Its ok. dont be embarassed. Quote
DOHCRagtopguy Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 Here's some food for thought on that knock sensor. On my wife's 92 it has a slight knock coming from the bottom half of the motor, I'm pretty sure it's a bearing on the way out. This triggers the knock sensor because it doesn't know that it's not detonation or pre-ignition that it is picking up. Sometimes her car starts running crappy because the ECM is trying to correct for a non-existent condition. I have to reset it every once in a while to get it running better. So if your lifters are making a lot of noise or anything like that, loud ticking injectors, maybe it's throwing a code because it just hears a noise and thinks it is pre-ignition knock or something. Hope this helps. Quote
regalized Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 the knock sensor on my car came unplugged, the connecter rotted off, lol The car didnt completely quit running, i drove it like that for 3 months without doing any damage to my car, i dont know who said it would quit running, but maybe they are confused on what they are talking about Quote
