m0sh_man Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 what was actually different with the motors? does anything have to be changed to install the newer motor in the older w-body? my 91GTP has a rod knock, and its a 5 speed, so if anything has to be changed i need to know. matthew Quote
gp90se Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 nada. use the 91-93 wiring harness, you will have a few plugs ont he motor unused (crank senor for 1), should be straight foward. -Jeff Quote
patgizz Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 what he said. use your existing harness and you just wont use the front crank sensor or cam sensors Quote
m0sh_man Posted January 28, 2004 Author Report Posted January 28, 2004 i hear the 96-97 motors have different heads which are completly different from the 91-95 motors. what else is different? matthew Quote
topless94style Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 I believe the intake manifold was changed to add like 5 more hp. Quote
joey b Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 the intake manifold was modified highly if you click on my www tab you will see how I got mine to mate up. You will have to use the 91-95 plenum if you get a newer engine or fabricate it up. The 96/97 is best with the 5 speed cause you can rev the crap out of it which is where the 96 gets its added power kickin in. If you get a 96 you will have to have the 96 exhaust manifold for sure.
