Heza
i had a full catback done on my '94 SE, but i dont think im going to go the same route on this car. i just want to swap out the mufflers and leave the stock tips on. keep it 'stock' looking. so, my question is directed to LQ1 owners. how do you think Flowmaster Delta Flow 40s would sound in place of stock mufflers...or what would you suggest (if possible, email me a sound clip)? im sure the exhaust on a 3.4 sounds different from a 3.1, but i just dont know. i want to do my exhaust right when i get back and pick up my car. inputs would be greatly appreciated! TeeJay3800
I may not own a LQ1 myself, but I have heard enough of them to know they sound very similar to the 3.1. In my opinion the Flowmaster 40 is about the best sound sounding muffler out there (the reason I have one) and it will make your 3.4 sound awesome. However, there are plenty of people who will tell you Flowmasters sound like shit and to buy a Magnaflo/Dynomax instead. You really have to hear both to develope your own opinion between chambered and straight-thru designs.
grandprix104
i personally dont like flow-through mufflers because they are too raspy and make alot of popping noises - at least from my experience flow40s are a popular choice thats what ill be getting in a few months. 4spdz34
flowmaster blow ass on the 3.4 i had them anyone who says they aren't raspy is lieing. i had 2.5in exhaust no cat and a glasspack and the 40 flows sounded horrible. i know have a highflow cat 2.5in exhaust and magnaflow mufflers with a glasspack. it makes no rasp at all and is deep sounding. notice how both the people hwo suggested 40 flows don't have 3.4's  . so go with a 3.4 owner on this. i have had at least 6 exhausts on this car, magnaflows are the best
gp90se
Im honestly sick of dronemasters on everything. I run dynomax on the grand prix and their about as raspy as it gets. Might wanna try an SLP muffler off a trans am or sumthing, bout as smooth a noise ive heard on a raspy motor, and your 3.4 will make sum serious rasp. -Jeff
Heza
well...my theory is this on raspy. raspy is because 2.5" is too much damn piping for the 3.1 and 3.4. 2.25" is sufficient. the 2.5" has a lot of echo sound. i learned that on my 3100. besides, the 3.4 needs the low end so im going to leave the stock piping (2" i believe) and swap the mufflers. 4spdz34...what kind of Magnaflow mufflers did you put on your car? gp90se
running 2 inch exhaust, you will severly hurt 3.4s top end and gas milage. Ill agree the noise comes from big piping, but in my opinion, its well worth it for the mpg and the top end performance. -Jeff
joey b
IIRC the stock on the 3.4 is 2.
Heza
IIRC the stock on the 3.4 is 2.25 what does IIRC stand for? call me stupid, just curious. is it 2.25? ive heard 2 and 2.25, but was never sure. if its 2.25 then its even better! 4spdz34
iirc if i remember correctly i have the stainless steel high polished magnaflow striaght throughs. and if you get a glass pack it will take the rasp outta the exhaust
Baddflash
I have a 2.5 inch dual exhaust with Magnaflow muffler in place of cat and two flowtech glasspacks at tips and it sounds quite deep without a lot of rasp or reverb. At idle the 3.1L sounds deeper than the 65' which only has flowtech glasspacks.
Lee
You want a quality glasspack with the mufflers. 2.25" piping, Flow Tech "Purple Hornies" glasspack in the 2.25 slip fit. Bye bye raspiness. Compare the insides of several glasspacks. You'll see what I mean. Thrush is worthless.

Z34door
i'd go chambered because thats what these cars all came with......... fiberglass packing tends to blow out.. i have a flowmaster 40 series with a hiflow cat and it sounds perfect..... nice deep sound... the way to get rid of the rasp is with resonated tips.......... brad.......... you're lumina is obnoxiously loud. don't take the cat off the Z34..... and finally put a cat on the lumina........ Heza
i dunno what im gonna do. of course, i still have plenty of time to make my decision since my car is waiting for me across the world anyway. but...ill keep on researching and then explain what i did when i get it done. topless94style
I personally like the way my car sounds. When it idles, nice deep throaty sound, and when crusing its the same sound, only deeper. Not too loud at all. But when you get on the gas, it screams, and NO rasp at all. Here is what i did: Carsound Cat 2.5" 2.5" SS piping 18" Magnaflow round muffler 2.5" 2.25" Ypipe SS piping 2 Magnaflow XL series SS 2.5" Mufflers 2 3" SS slant cut tips Total cost: $661 give or take shipping I love the sound of my car. Lee
I have resonated tips on mine (see www site) and I had to put a tube inside them to de-resonate them. They droned terribly. Mine were $42 a set, PILOT something. Probably nicer ones out there that don't drone.
