ixlar8 Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 I have to replace the PCV and EGR. For all you guys that have performed this, what is the best wayto rock the engine forward on my 3.1L? I have seen procedures to remove the dogbones, use crowbars, 2X4s, ratchet cables, etc. What about the Plenum?? What about the TB?? What is the BEST way??? Quote
Robby1870 Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 Just as you described. Take out the dog bones, but the tranny in neutral with the parking brake on, and pull it forward and reattach the dogbones, only put the bolt through the bottom small hole on the dog bone. Quote
TGPilot Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 I used a motorcycle tie down to pull the motor forward and hold it... 8) Quote
ixlar8 Posted January 23, 2004 Author Report Posted January 23, 2004 So... moving it forward with the dognebone bolt will give me enuff room to disconnect both PCV aAND the old brittle hose?? Quote
PaPaPooh Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 i use a crowbar ont he hoist mounts or hang mounts in the front of the engine then the bolt threw the bottom hole (bolt braket) on the dog bone not hard at all when i replaced both dog bones i just pulled the engine holding the plenum forward into position to get the bones on good luck there are many different ways to do it but do it the way you feel comfertable with Quote
soccrplayrgtp Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 Those ways are good. I needed to get to mine and work on the rear of the engine, so I just rocked the car back and forth and hit the E-brake as long as thats still working. Quote
god910 Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 I place my left hand behind the alternator and PULL! I do it in park so I don't have to worry about running myself over. (Damn W-body brakes) I then use my right hand to position the bolt into the woof woof. Quote
GP1138 Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 why'd you burn that amp????? It looks like a Photoshop effect to me. If it isn't, I'd like to know as well! Quote
soccrplayrgtp Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 my vote.. its fried anyway... have a little fun otherwise its chopped Quote
joey b Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 slide one of the dogbone bolts throught the hole on the engine and use a crowbar. Quote
Lee Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 Here's my tip. Park the car on a slight incline, facing downward. Put in park with e-brake on for saftey. Gravity will assist in pulling the motor forward. Getting it back when finished.....not my problem. It is easier to push the motor back than pull forward. There is more leverage. Or in my case, I can just let the car coast into the dead end street and hook it up there. Quote
Lee Posted January 25, 2004 Report Posted January 25, 2004 The wife's Intrepid is an inline front wheel drive V6. Easy to do plugs and wires. Sensors are easy to get at too. Can't seem to develop a personal bond with it though. Must be all the plastic, plain seats and lousy rear view vision. Quote
jamcneely Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 Pry bars are your friend. Just use one of those, all these ways of parking on inclines, or pulling forward and slamming the e-brake are useless! Just undo the front mounts (dog bones) use a pry bar through the mount with the engine lifting hole, and pull the engine forward with the pry bar. Using just one hand! With the other, line up the dog bone with a small hole in about the center of the dog bone, and put the bolt you just removed in through that hole and the bracket on the engine. This will give you enough room on the back side of the engine to do your repairs. Quote
