getragz34 Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 Any cutting of the coil will make a difference, especially if you only cut 1/2 a coil. A full coil would be alot better to cut off, to have the coil sit more properly. There is no problem cutting a coil, but understand the geometry will be off a little or alot. Lowered springs are made for a particlur vehicle and the manufacture takes everything into consideration. Not only are the aftermarket springs made lower but are tempered again for that particular height and adjusted accordingly for a certain application. The best thing to do is get a set of used stock springs from a wrecker and cut those, so incase something goes wrong you still have the originals. Let me know what happens Ciao Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 i actually already have a set of 49K mile front springs from a '96 Cutlass sedan. they came with the strut/knuckles that i got for my front brake upgrade. i have already compressed them and taken them off the struts. what method should i use to cut? i have access to air tools and a cutoff wheel....i think i'll try cutting a full coil off of those and see what happens. if things suck i'll just throw the Eibachs back in. thanks for the info joshua Quote
joey b Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 there are places that make springs to your desire. You can take your spring out and bring it to them and they will make it to your desired specifications. Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 They charge you too much money and give you one. cutting costs nothing. joshua Quote
godofthunder Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 again, just currious....why would you actually replace the rear leaf spring like some mentioned? jon Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 cracking or sagging i suppose. joshua Quote
godofthunder Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 talking to my dad...you would replace the struts back there, not the spring if it was sagging. jon Quote
