Any spots of difficulty that I should watch out for. Any abnormalities in these damned 3100's that I should beware? Any tips whatsoever would be much appreciated! dkorinko
Sorry i dont have any tips but...why are u taking the motor out???
kfahn
well, my car is fully smashed in the rear end, but the motor is perfect, and I just bought another 95', off of a guy on ClubGP, for about $800 with a blown engine, so I am going to swap the engines. Maybe one of these days I'll get around to taking a bunch of pictures of my f'd up car!
qwikgta
just did it to a 91 Cutlass intl. it took about 2 hours. just get the rear end about a foot in the air, front too (but you are going to lift the front). remove all the items that attach the engine/trans to the firewall (harness, hoses, fuel lines, trans, throttle etc....) remove the wheels, remove the brake calipers (not from hose, just off rotors, hang with some wire). Unbolt the three bolts from the top of each strut. Then attach a engine hoist to the two motor lift points. Unbolt the 4 cradle bolts and lower the engine/trans/cradle to the ground. then lift the front of the car up high enough to clear the engine, pull it out from under the car. Done. If you are just pulling the engine, and dont care about brake lines, radiator hose, fuel hose ect... just cut them. DRAIN FLUIDS FIRST.... but if you are not looking at using that stuff, cut it, i did, and it makes for a fast engine pull. Rob
kfahn
now that is a good explanation!
conley3.1
Yeah I was gonna say just cut the hoses and stuff too, heh heh. I did a swap on my Lumina. Took too long. You should change spark plugs and stuff while you're at it... Maybe get a Chilton manual. Good luck. BTW, why did you take off the brake caliper? I only took off my right front wheel (to get at motor mount)
kfahn
yeah, I got the Chilton's manual to make sure that I am doing all of the steps necessary!
