joey b
So I come out this morning and my car pissed PS fluid in my driveway as I pulled in last night. I filled it and drove to work. When I got there there was no leaking to be seen. I drove about 15 miles mid day and went back to work. I get out and the thing is whining like a woman. I add fluid and drive off (maybe it just settled in the lines) I get home and it seems like it is empty. I check and sure enough. Could I have blown a seal out in my rack if I had snow jammed in there and turned the steering too far? Am I SOL and have to buy a new rack or what? joey b
so an hour after I got home I went out there with a flashlight. No fluid leaked that I saw and the reservoir wasn't empty, but was low. WTF?
joey b
ok, it is leaking....badly. Did I destroy the rack? Where should I start looking and what are the prices (just parts) and work involved for the various things. Also, if somehow my rack got damaged am I in danger driving? The tierod isn't going to just fall out or anything, is it? If I put thicker fluid in there, say 20W50, will it hurt anything really? I did that with my old GP to slow the leaking and it worked quite well for quite some time. What if I just run it dry? Is the pump gonna be trashed after 2 miles? a day? a week? PaPaPooh
check lines first if it is comming out fast it is the high pressure line slow more than likely it is the low pressure side you might be able to see it leak from there if not there could be seals on the rack oh and look for fresh fluid and track that to where the leak is it will be clean other than fluid
