3.4 LQ1 worth the stress?

  1. 1. 3.4 LQ1 worth the stress?

Recommended Posts

since i am seriously considering a bid on the '96 GP Special Edition on eBay right now, i need some honest answers from LQ1 owners. ive avoided the 3.4 when i bought my '94, but this '96 is just damn sexy. i need to know would if the LQ1 owners out there say that the motor is worth having? honestly, including the noted problem issues, performance and repairs. ive never driven one, so i dont know. please...be honest because i dont want to worry about what im getting into...too much atleast! thanks a lot for responses and votes!!!!

What stress??

I've owned two cars with the 3.4 ('92 Euro 3.4 and a '95 GTP) and both of them were problem free for the most part. Both of mine were extremely low mileage when I got rid of them though. I personally don't think that the 3.4 is any more expensive of an engine to maintain then any other engine and I would not hesitate to purchase another car with the 3.4.

They are not that bad. If it's higher mileage (over 100k) you'll have a few common problems to iron out. Once you get everything in good shape, they're pretty reliable.

They're pretty expensive to have worked on, but not any more than any other car with a DOHC engine.

I'd love to have a LQ1, looking at a 1992 STE now actually, has a lot of mileage but has a fully loaded interior with everything working. Pretty rusty, but I bet I could swap a few parts over to my 95.

I VOTE YES!! i think this engine is awesome. I have just had one problem with the motor, the intake gasket. My friend broke the Coolant temp sensor, so now its acting like shit sometimes, and then i have the oil leak. Other than that, the engine is great, reliable and faster than a 3.1. No offence to 3.1 guys, i do love the lowend of the 3100, but id take a LQ1 over it anyday.

thanks for the inputs everyone. i really appreciate it. as for how it is now, i still plan on going after the car. hopefully he doesnt have a crazy reserve locked on it though. i called him last night from out here and got positive information from him and is willing to work with me on it if i bid since i wont be home for another month.

im not worried about the 3.4 at all. im very well car oriented and have a shop with the tools to work on it. that makes a world of difference if you ask me.

i am pretty sure im waiting until one of the last minutes to drop my total/final bid. none of this playing around crap before hand. its stupid. im excited to see how it turns out, but will be pissed if i lose it because the internet sucks out in Iraq. eBay doesnt like to load correctly after a bid so i basically have one shot at my bid. given eBay bidding standards, im sure ill surpass a lot who do the increment bidding just to play with the price.
