digitaloutsider
w00t.. I'm being such a topic whore. Anyhoo, I have a question. My tach and speedo are horribly incorrect. Right when I start the car, the tach shoots up to as far as it can go. When I'm driving, going about 55 will put the speedo at 120. The oil, temperature, and amp gauges are fine. The fuel approximator is of course.. not great. You guys have any quick checks to figure out the problem?
digitaloutsider
My car's a 90, so no digital gauges. I wish I had those though.. they're cool.
GnatGoSplat
It probably needs to have the joints on the circuit board resoldered. Very common to have solder problems on the Delco clusters.
GnatGoSplat
Yep.
WhiteOut
Yeah, that definitely sounds like an electrical problem. And it must be a fairly serious one too because the gauges in these cars are about as damped as you can get.
joey b
seems to me that the GP guage clusters are terrible for this.
Robby1870
seems to me that the GP guage clusters are terrible for this. Yes, they are. I have re-soldered mine once already
rudefyet
If you do them right the first time then they should work perfect without having to fix them again.. Easier said then done with a broken soldering iron
GnatGoSplat
I've found you can get awesome solder joints without using any additional solder. Just pick up some Rosin Paste Flux and dab a little on each joint you want to resolder. Then touch the soldering iron to the joint till it melts. It will become very nice and shiny and flow very well.
srsheely220
my speedo jumped around like that in my old 92 grand prix when the alternator took a dump on me.
