calys968 Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Hello. I have an '89 Cutlass Supreme. After sitting all night if it's lower than around 40 degrees it starts to do some weird things. Until it warms up(which takes about 20 minutes) the speedometer doesn't work, the serivce engine light stays lit and it idles very rough. Also. when in drive it will go at about 20mph without your foot even on the gas. Any ideas on what could be happening? Quote
topless94style Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 I would get the code pulled and see what that is. You can use a paper clip to get that, read the instructions on this site. You may have a vacum leak check the o2 sensor too. Quote
calys968 Posted January 13, 2004 Author Report Posted January 13, 2004 Okay, I tried checking the codes using the paper clip. I connected the paper clip to terminal a and terminal b and turned the key to the on position but the check engine light didn't flash at all. Any ideas on why it's not working? Quote
Redfox340 Posted January 14, 2004 Report Posted January 14, 2004 Any ideas on why it's not working? Was the car's ignition at the ON position? Check again, if you're doing it right, it'll flash the codes for you. For more details check: W-Body Performnace - OBDI Diagnostics or W-Body.com - ECM Codes. - Erik Quote
conley3.1 Posted January 14, 2004 Report Posted January 14, 2004 Sounds like a vaccuum leak to me. Check if the lines on top of your throttle body are okay. If so, the ones under the manifold may be shattered. Crappy brittle plastic. Quote
PaPaPooh Posted January 14, 2004 Report Posted January 14, 2004 Maybe your IAT (idle air temperature) sensor in your airbox ..??? i don't think that would keep it from starting and/or running because several times i have left mine off and it started just fine just with ses light on i bet he gets a code 15 coolant temp sensor reading abnormal temps (also controls air/fuel mix) Quote
