TGPilot
I am pretty sure that the stock TGP altenator AMP rating is 105 amps. If you are getting a dimming when you step on the brakes you may want to have your alt and battery load tested first. I had this problem and I found out my alternator was dying and my battery had 2 dead cells in it... 8)

musthavemuzk
i local shop told me they could rebuild the 100 amp alt on mine for about $85-100. this was going from 100 amp alt to a 140 amp alt. they just had to order a new stator. TurboZ24
Iceberg makes a 140 amp kit for the 105 amp GM alternator. It has high end components, bigger bearings, and a heat sink on the case.

ismellrealbad
considering the 2.8 and 3.1 are nearly identical engines, would that alt for the 90-93 3.1's work on an 89 2.8? i dont see why not
Guest Anonymous
I'm pretty sure they are the same. In fact I got one off a 2.8 for my TGP from a j/y.

Guest Anonymous
I just looked up some part #'s. The '88 shows a different part number than 89 and 90. The 89 shows the same # as 90 for an AC Delco alt. and different #'s for the other brands. The only difference I see is the alt. for the 3.1 is 105 amps. The others are 100 amps.
