Robby1870 Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Its the name of the manual transmissions that were available in Ws from 88-90 and 91-93. They are also called Muncies, since they were made in Muncie, IN. Also called the HM-282 or HM-284 Quote

L67wanaB Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 ***If you were going to mate one of the two to a blown Pontiac L67 which would it be?*** K6TC That depends. The 282 uses a standard pull type clutch and parts/repair are cheaper. It doesn't handle as much power/torque as the 284, but the difference isn't really that significant. The 284 uses a pull type clutch (ass-backwards) and the parts/repair are insanely expensive because this particular trans isn't that common. Should it ever require a rebuild ... you have to ship to detroit. I have a 282 mated to the L67 with a beefy clutch ... I haven't had a problem for the first 20,000 miles. Quote
slick Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 Werd. The 282 will handle it. Once it goes, see if you can get it rebuilt with beefier parts though. Quote
