Maverick
So my car is in the shop right now, the dude calls me back and says "third synch roe gone, fith shift fork busted, first synchroe ring is gone, input shaft is gone, need a clutch pack/kit" but in more technical ways. Suggestions on what to do? He tells me that the clutch I have is an expensive one, and for him at cost, it is 700$cdn, is that too high? Are there any other transmissions that I can go to that will have a longer life? Thanks PS Ive babied the this car for the most part, havnt been poppin the clutch, and slammin it in between gears. There is the few occasions where I show people what the car can do, but should this have happend?
93GTP
I don't know what you're gonna do about that Getrag 284. They are tough trannies, but you can't buy parts for them anymore. So I guess one option would be to get a machine shop to make some synchroes for you, and possibly get the shift fork repaired? And the input shaft is gone? I find that hard to believe, can you trust this place? As for the clutch, the replacement at GM is super expensive, but you can get one for 180 bucks. Advance sells a perfection hytest unit for that price. http://www.partsamerica.com/PartDetails.asp?SourceArea=SHOP&SourcePage=SEARCHRESULTS&MfrCode=PHT&MfrPartNumber=MU700451&PartType=244&PTSet=C And no, there isn't a tougher tranny that you can put in your car. Your tranny actually has a reputation for being tough.
