Tranny Swap Cost Estimate

I know this topic has been beaten to death but someone recap with me. Is it possible to swap out a 4T60-E in order to mate a Getrag 282 with a 3100? (97 cutlass)...How much money and time will be involved? Is this going to be something i can do over a span of 1-4 days? How long would i have to save up? Don't worry about the parts list, i can get that easily.

Thanks!

your BIG problem will be mounting the clutch pedal. since your car is a '97, there is no way to mount the clutch pedal without a custom bracket. i know brian89GP has done it with his Grand Prix tho, so you may want to talk to him and/or check out his webpage. another problem may be your cars engine management system - the computer might not like it. i did the swap with a 3.1 MPFI engine and simply swapped in an ECM with the right memcal so it was easy for me. the price will all really depend on what kind of deals you can get. the only new parts i used were engine & tranny mounts, and an axle. the tranny i got already came with a new clutch. i could do the swap within 4 days easy but only because i've done it a few times before. it all depends on how mechanically inclined you are, whether you have all the tools. i think the whole job is pretty easy really, but then again i'm sure a '97 would be quite a bit more difficult. good luck

okay cool......so if I could get my hands on a 282, Am i going to have to rearrange anything other than the fabrication of the brackets and stuff? Do I need the insides of different axles or something? and i could probably use the memcal from a MPFI, right? has anyone ever done this swap on a 3100?!

thanks

but with the computer from a 3.1 5sp...like for example the 93s or something like that...would i lose anything? fuel economy? performace? would the engine operate properly? or would i just be driving an MPFI as opposed to an SFI?

So if someone were to buy all the parts, and go to your house, and give you a small sum of money, would you help them do a 5 speed swap on say a '90 Turbo STE?
