RareGMFan
Ok. A while back, I mentioned that my usual throttle body cleaner said not to use on turbos and diesels. Now that that idea's scrapped, what about the Sea Foam stuff? I've used it a number of times in the past, but the TGPs have me questioning everything before I try them. Anyone know if it would be safe to use?
skalor
http://www.sytyarchives.com/howto/viewarticle.php?article_name=top_end_cleaner.php&dir=engine Check out that site as SeaFoam is basically the same thing as GM Top Engine Cleaner. I've used the GM stuff in the bottle that you suck in through a vacuum line. I pretty much followed the directions on the can, which are basically the same that the link has listed. I took my TGP for a quick drive to finish clearing the smoke after I restarted it. I ran it until the smoke cleared and then did an oil change. I'd think that any TGP could benefit from doing this as we usually have/had leaky x-overs that cause a rich condition that can carbon up our combustion chambers. 8)
dkorinko
Thats true, good idea man....any idea where to get this stuff and how much it cost????
maddux31
I bought Sea Foam at O'reilly or Advance Auto Parts, comes in one pint (16 oz.) cans. Says you can use it in your gas or oil and is instant. Car has been down so I can't really give any results of this stuff. Recommended by a friend for fuel injectors and moisture in fuel tanks/lines. RareGMFan
I've used the GM stuff in the bottle that you suck in through a vacuum line. Which vacuum line did you use? And did you poor some through the oil fill cap? Also, am I read the instructions right: You poor it in with the engine running, and then shut it off? ....any idea where to get this stuff and how much it cost???? I haven't gotten any in quite some time, but the last time I bought it, I got it from CarQuest for about $6 or so. I've only used it in the fuel tank, myself. LukeZ34
You drop a line with constant vacuum in to the can, let it suck the entire contents of the can in to the motor at the same time trying to keep the motor running. Once it pulls the whole can in, let the car die and let it sit for a while. Then start it up and let it do it's smoke show.
