I know this topic has been beat to death, but I want staightforward answers.

What is your imput on the way to go for the best sounding and performance. Not just for mufflers, but all the way back, Piping and all.

I don't want a tining noise to it, I want a nice low rumble, but still sounds good at 7K.

Is there a place where I can get a downpipe also? I looked at RedZ's webpage, but he doesn't have any, only for the L36's and L67's.

OK I'll start right from the rear manifold back.

For downpipe, don't do anything. The stocker is plenty good and doesn't have restrictive bends or anything, it's not a bad piece.

After the downpipe, if your budget can handle it, a 2.5" mandrel bent custom system would definetely be the answer for your 5 speed DOHC. RedZMonte makes a midpipe kit, it's a 2.5" mandrel bent pipe, that goes from the cat area right to, but not including the Y. Aaron has one, and if you're interested email or IM Shane.

I recommend putting in a cat, simply because a 2.5" high flow cat can be had for so cheap, and it will hardly affect performance and help the environment.

This is the exact cat I used, and it would be perfect in your application as well.

For mufflers I recommend Magnaflow, because I think the sound is definetely the best, and most suited to the DOHC. And not to mention the performance and quality are unmatched. I love Magnaflows on my car, they sound awesome.

You should also consider buying a Magnaflow Round muffler to act as a resonator. When I had just my carsound high flow cat on, and mufflers, I still had the rasp from around 2100-2500 RPM. Putting in the round completely fixed it and my car now has NO rasp. The reason you should get a magnaflow round instead of using a standard glasspack is for life. Glasspacks are crappy quality and don't last long, where Magnaflows are excellent and come with a lifetime warranty. I used a glasspack first, it sounded good at first, but the damn thing started rattling, so I ditched it.

I hope I helped.

Thats pretty much the exact setup I've got on my car, and it sounds wonderful!!! As I recall the total cost was around $700, but I got stainless steel all around, you could probably just stick with aluminized for a couple hundred less.

yup, Magnaflow is good stuff, right now i have their hi-flow cat, and am thinking of gettin my 2 year old flowmaster 50-series switched to a 2.5 inch marnaflow muffler. That thing with adding a magnaflow inline resonator makes sence, cause right now my exhaust vibrates some internal cabin trim pieces something fierce, and the inline resonator sounds like it might solve my problem.
