toastemcutlass
so ive got the 3.4 and it only happens in the winter so im totally at a lose for what it is.. after the car has been sitting a couple hours it takes almost 3 times of cranking for about 10 seconds b4 it will start.. when it finally starts it misses on a couple cylenders for about another ten seconds or so and then it runs fine..i can start the car up with in two hours and i have no problems... when it cranks it doesnt even pop for awhile so i was thinking the ignition module maybe..let me know what you guys think thanks-scott
Slade901
Probably ignition coils. If you have not replaced your spark plugs in a long time then it might wise to replace them now. You can try getting a Ignition Control Module/Ignition Coils from the junkyard since it is cheaper.

If its that, have fun. first if you have a timing light, use that to see if you at least have spark when the car won't start. If you have any questions, PM me or GrandPrix34 about how to change the ICM or coil packs.
toastemcutlass
yeah i had a problem a while back.. theres a crack in one of the coils and when the car would get hot it would expand the crack and water would make it run crappy so i reloacated the coils on the support that gos from the tower to the core support...i guess my cheap fix finally isnt helping ..oh well, is there a way i can test it with my meter..i want to try it b4 i start it and after to make sure its the problem..i beleive msd finally carries replacments for the 60 degrees, probably wont give me extra power but at least it will look cool.. thanks again...hope everyone had a merry christmas or what ever you celebrate(to be politically correct)
AWeb80
well, slade posted this for me a while back, dont' know if it helps though. http://members.fortunecity.com/slade901/automobile/Ignition_Troubleshooting.htm
Justin
I'm gonna disagree with all of you. I had the same exact problem, it's pretty common actually. Your fuel is draining back into the tank. Next time it's sat for a while, cycle the key to the on position like 3 times before you start it. If it starts fine it's the fuel pump. AWeb80
Ya justin, you may be right. The fuel pump may be weak and isn't able to pressurize the fuel as quickly.
5speedZ
I think it may just be the opposite, fuel inj leaking gas into the cylinder. Then once it gets started it burns off the fuel on the wet plugs and starts to run fine. Does it smoke once it starts up like its running rich? Just like what Justin said, probably also a failing fuel pump but before changing the fuel pump, try switching the fuel pump relay to the AC 2 relay if you have a two radiator fan setup. If you don't have a relay to swap then either hit the j/y or auto parts store. This problem might be related to clogged fuel injectors or carbon build up and probably the reason why the car starts up fine within two hours because any cruds are still probably soft when the engine is warm/hot and then hardens when the engine cold. A Top End Cleaner or $6 SeaFoam Motor Tune-Up might help unclog stuff in the engine. Besides it is for preventive maintenance anyway. toastemcutlass
well i always have the motor apart and there has never been carbon build up mostly cuz i clean it all the time... i havent used injector cleaner in a long time but i use nothing but premium.. another thing i was thinking was maybe the tps was mested up and dumping too much fuel in..i taped on it when the car was running and the rpms went up to about 2 grand so it might be flooding it maybe? let me kno what you guys think
