dkorinko
I have heard that the fuel injectors in a TGP should NOT be cleaned/flushed...i dont know if there is any truth to this at all so i thought i would ask??? As anyone cleaned the injectors on their turbo 3.1????
god910
Well, I don't see why not, but at the same time... If they are stock injectors I wouldn't waste the money. If you have a hook up then it's not too bad but to have my injectors cleaned and flowed it was gunna cost more than the Accels that I have now. The Accels are a better design too. Was this person that said not to clean them trying to sell you a set?
dkorinko
I dont know, just a few people i know have told me that, and no, they werent trying to sell me injectors. Any prices and part numbers for better ones??? I would be interested in that but if u dont have any info on that then as long as it is ok to clean them i should be fine! Guest Anonymous
I think what was said was that it doesn't do any good to clean these injectors. You can do the same thing with some TB cleaner.
gp90se
Wouldnt see why not, theres nuthing special about them that wouldnt make the cleanable. Id just toss in a bottle of fuel injector cleaner (im a big of valvolines fuel injector cleaner, its $5). -Jeff

Jeff M
GM put out a Technical Service Bulletin many years ago regarding cleaning these injectors, it states that Multec Injectors do not need cleaning self cleaning), yea yea I know, but what was really being said behind it was, and this IS a proven fact, that all Multec (NOT just the TGP ones) injectors made prior to 1993 will be destroyed if cleaned with a strong/fuel rail fed injector cleaner system! What happens is the lacquer coating over the injector windings will dissolve (more on that later) with strong cleaning solvents such as the ones with a bottle that is injected into the fuel rail (fuel lines unhooked) or when an injector is removed and sent to a shop for cleaning (and balancing and all that great stuff). Now about these lacquer coated windings, many TGP owners here and quite a few in general, Multec Injector owners prior to manufacturing date 1993 have found their injector winding ohm readings dropping (engine stalls after car is run for a time) or shorted (engine stalls soon after started), this is the lacquer wearing off or worn off from the detergent fuels that is at every pump and has been for quite some time. GM finally acknowledged this problem and all Multec Injectors made from 1993 on have their windings incased in epoxy! So, cleaning is not a good idea, especially since many original TGP injectors are dropping in ohms already. Sorry for the unpleasant news, just the facts.
