I have a 99 grand prix with the 3.1L v6 and I am wondering if a 99 buick century steering rack (and tie rods) will work

Probably?

it may be a more power assisted feel or have a slightly different number of turns lock to lock. I assume you're asking as its a cheap or free option.

without checking interchange my opinion is that it will likely work.

Variable Effort Steering might come into play (NV7).  I put a GXP rack in my 99 GT.  There are a lot of junk racks out there and OEM ones are about impossible to find with VES.

If neither cars have the variable steering system would they both have the same feel to it

I dont want the steering to feel super different but if its minor difference than I dont really care

has anybody owned a century and a gp on here and if so could they chime in?

I've driven enough of both over the years, I can't imagine it will be that different, if at all.

I don't know about '99s.

In the first-gen Ws, there's a half-dozen steering racks--different gear ratios, different steering effort, different number of turns lock-to-lock.

I fully expect that the later Ws have a similar number of rack variations.  But in the end, they should all "fit" and "work" even if they've got different steering feel.

This would be interesting to look at steering ratios, I wonder if the FE3 would be tighter?   Even better if the gen 1 and gen 2 racks could interchange?
