SuperBuick
Hi All - The interior lights for my 1991 grand prix STE I just picked up wont shut off, even with the doors closed. If I disconnect the battery with the doors closed, and reconnect it, they will then go off. Any idea what is causing this? I can't find any button/switches on the door frames that would be triggered by closing the door (how does the car know doors open vs closed?) Any help is appreciated! 94 olds vert
There should be a button in the door jam by the fender. I think that's where it is. It's probably stuck closed. You could have a wiring issue as well.

Maybe I'm not remembering correctly. I know 2nd gens use the door latch. Maybe 1st gens are the same?
55trucker
This is just a mechanical push contact switch. I don't really think this is the source of your issue, being an STE I take it that the car is equipped with the light sentry option? One pulls the doorhandle & the interior lights all come on, one gets out of the car & the interior lights will stay on for 30 secs. 94 olds vert

SuperBuick
Great info - but confusingly my car does not have ANY switches there????!!!!! In the box of spare parts Jeremy gave me there was a new (used) headlight switch assembly - I popped that in and now the lights finally go off!!! Really appreciate the help and info guys!
