leak question

OK, im trying to tackle this damn leak. WE thought it was the water pump, and while that was some, theres still something else.

Looking at it again today, i dont know if its just the water pump. See the bolt, under the water pump, right above the hose clamp on the botom of the circled area? Well, right above that, there seems to be a gap. Things above this gap actually look dry, like the water pump.

What could it be? My dad said even gaskets (he hasnt seen this yet). As it leaks, its getting coolant on the belt, and then getting the rest of the side wet or dirty. And its nothing major, but enough to caus a noticable leak when the car sits. But, it will only leak at one time, then be fine for a bit.

Any ideas? This is why I want to get rid of my car

How wet is it? It's not residule and there are new puddles?

Powerwash the sucker to get a good clean look at it.

There is a chance it could be the intake manifold gasket, but it's too hard to tell from not being there.

See, its always wet, just sometimes more than others. Sometimes the belt is dry, others its wet.

See, my dad said possibly the gasket too (that these 60* were famous for leaking). How much labor is it usually to change one ($$-wise from a shop, or time it woudl take me to do it my first time)?

Is it somethign worth ditching the car over? Theres no way i could hold the guilty concience of selling this to someone for some $$, and then knowing it had such a leak

True, but at the same time, you've got to look at it from an objective standpoint.

Will the repair cost be figured into your sell price, if and when you sell the car?

Is it worth it to you if you fix it and then sell it off.

I know to some, that leak will be an issue, but others may find it as a challenge to tear down and repair themselves.

I think we've all done that with buying not-to-close-perfect Gen I Z34's, TGP's, Euro's, Supreme's and GTP's.

see, round here though, if its not to good, or has something like this, i could only get like $1000. Im looking to $4000. I wont go below $3500. IF i have it fixed, then it will for for $4000 or more, im sure.

If it was a $500 fix, then ill sell the car for $3000-3500, and let them know thats why i droped the price.

Then that's what you're looking for then... a shop that will do the work around that price.

And if your dedicated to sell it, start placing ads now; clean / detail the Cutlass, and put some signs on it.

The more details on the cars the more dedicated buyers will contact you.

Why don't you hook up a leak tester to it? It connects at the radiator and you can pump it up to pressurize it, then look to where the A/F is leaking from. You'll go nuts trying to figure it out otherwise.

Good Luck!
