crazyd Posted July 23, 2023 Report Posted July 23, 2023 My shifter cable has gotten a little sticky, not sure why at this point but It's stiff when it's cold until things warm up. Not serious yet, but does anyone know of a source for replacements? Quote
Schurkey Posted July 25, 2023 Report Posted July 25, 2023 I can't help with replacements, but make sure the ground straps are in good condition. I've seen shift cables damaged when they become a ground-strap, they can spot-weld themselves to the cable sheath, or melt entirely. Bake82 1 Quote
White93z34 Posted July 25, 2023 Report Posted July 25, 2023 which one, the main shift cable or the selector cable? either way both are not available anymore. I seem to remember HAL back in the day getting one custom made from https://push-pull.com/ if memory serves me right Depending on the one, I may have a spare. Quote
crazyd Posted November 4, 2023 Author Report Posted November 4, 2023 It's the shifter cable. Selector is fine. It seems to be on the cabin side, not the engine side as it only frees up when the cabin warms up, not the engine. Quote
Schurkey Posted November 5, 2023 Report Posted November 5, 2023 Have you lubed the cable? If it "frees-up" when warm, that sounds like contaminated or incorrect lube to me. Quote
crazyd Posted November 7, 2023 Author Report Posted November 7, 2023 No, I've never lubed the cable. I'm thinking some penetrating oil might be a good idea though. Quote
Schurkey Posted November 9, 2023 Report Posted November 9, 2023 (edited) We used to use white-grease, or graphite powder rubbed on the inner cable after we pulled the inner cable from the outer sheath. But that was on speedo cables. Haven't worked on shifter cables. Edited November 9, 2023 by Schurkey Quote
