5speedz34
Umm, well the clutch on the 3.4's is a "pull type" instead of a push type and no other car has ever used this setup so I wouldn't be suprised but who knows.
Bowtiekid
It is nornal for the fingers to move outward (away from the flywheel) as you tighten the pressure plate. This is not the only car to use this style. The 300GT uses this style as do many large trucks and a few LT1 applications i believe

carl
ok heres the deal. When we went to tighten up the clutch this ring poped of the pressure plate. So we took the pressure plate back off and attached that ring. We then attached the pressure plate once again to the flywheel. The ring didnt pop off this time so i guess were ok. I have another question. When you install the transmission is the through out bearing supposed to click into the pressure plate. The clutch pedal is very stiff now. We didnt feel any binding when we lowered the motor in place and attached the tranny???
PaPaPooh
ok that is a diaphram clutch i am not sure about the throw out bearing clicking into the ring did you bleed the system? drove the car yet? grinding gears? is it ok other than stiff pedal? try bleeding the system if you have not done so yet good luck glad it worked out!! carl
We'll, were installing a new motor in this car and were not going to be able to drive it for a while. Were doing a 3400 top end swap with a turbo in my brothers lumina. We just got the motor put in and before we get started on the wiring I wanted to make sure that we had the clutch right. Heres a pic of the motor in the car. Thanks for the help.

skalor
Carl, so you have a turbo 3.1(with a 3400 topend swap) mated to a getrag 284?? I ask because I'm doing the same exact thing with my TGP right now! I just dropped the auto out today, but unfortunately I won't be done until after x-mas as the wife is getting me the clutch as a present. I'm going to do a 3100 topend swap come summer as I already have a set of heads, so I just need to get the rest by then. I also plan on getting a cam at the same time. I figure if I have to tweak the VE table I might as well only do it once. 8)
carl
skalor - That sounds like a sweet project. I use to have a 90 TGP. We used the bottom end from that car for this project. I think it will be neat to see how the 284 works with the 3.1. Our project kinda grew out of hand. It started out as a 92 z34 with a blown motor. We wanted to get a new 3.4 and put in it and thats when my TGP took a crap. So I said why dont we put the Turbo 3.1 in your Z. When we were having the bottom end checked we came up with the idea to use 3400 top end. I knew Jeff M was working on a set of 3.1 heads but I thought I would be just sick to use the larger 3400 intake and plemun. So thats where were at now. Motor is in but we still have to change the injector harness, change the alternator plug, work with PS lines, work with fuel lines, have headers made, install radiator, cooling lines, and tons more shit. Maybe someday you can take me for a ride in your car, it would be nice to get back in a TGP.
