90KUTTY
does the rpm meter on the gauge cluster work on a car that had a base cluster?
Redfox340
Yes it should, since GM installs all the same wiring harnesses (mainly) but tacts on different components. Talk with 92TurboLE, since he just swaped his base cluster: Gauge Cluster Upgrade. - Erik

Redfox340
Did you go from a digital dash cluster to a mechanical cluster, or vise versa? Read over 92TurboLE's post and see if anything matches up in your situtation. - Erik
92turboLE
yeah, i know there is a difference between the mechanical and digital clusters wiring. All the wires are there, you just have to move them around. Get ahold of Gearhead43 i think he know the pinouts. - Justin
90KUTTY
it was digital base cluster to digital gauge cluster it all works(lights up)but its just not reading any rpm's
GnatGoSplat
Check your wiring diagram for the gauges cluster. There should be a slot for an orange ALDL serial data wire. The base cluster doesn't need this, but the gauges cluster does. You can tap into this wire at the ALDL diagnostic connector which would be just in front of your right knee when you sit in the driver's seat. Hook up this wire, tach will work.
