94SLSDOHCUTT94
I've already got a K&N cone air filter replacing my air box, I would just like to know if there is a way to rig up some sort of "ram-air" setup, to work with maybe or to assist the "intake" I already have. 94SLSDOHCUTT94
I've thought about this a little.......I know a fabricator who works with plastic and says if I need anything made he can do it. So I was thinking he could make me a sort of induction "shroud" to cup the air filter and be attached to a tube that sneaks down and attaches to the bottom of the bumper(or somewhere down there) and have a wide 5" opening about 2" high sucking all the cold air in from the bottom of the car and bringing it up to the air filter supplying it with air that doesnt see any heat source. This would be considered being a true CAI right? with a sort of forced alternate induction with the apparatus? I'm just letting my creative side wander a little, feel free to correct me on anything I've just said.
topless94style
Aaron AND 93GTP have CAI.
topless94style
Yea his is fenderwall. I kinda like the idea above of sealing the air filter in the bay and leading pipe down underneath. Prolly take up more room and cost more, but may keep the filter cleaner.
WhiteOut
Well, if you don't mind losing your bright head lamps there's a really good way to make a CAI. I had a friend on GMF who did this to his Toronado which had a similar headlight design. He moved his drivers side dim lamp to where the bright usually sits then made a plastic shroud to direct air into the snorkel using the stock air box. The same type of thing could easily be done on a cutlass, but for aesthetics you'd have block off the left side light with a plastic panel or something similar which would mean movingto both dim headlights to the bright position, which would eliminate your brights entirely. Kind of ghetto, but a neat solution and one that actually works well being right on the front of the car in the open. I think he got about 6hp and 3 ft lb at the wheels from his mod. Oh, and making a scoop for the cutlass would require reworking the black piece of plastic protecting the radiator, so keep that in mind if you decide to go that route. And if you just go for the drop in don't expect to see any real changes in performance, I didn't see much of any differance when I got mine. Zoomina34
Has anyone ever though about making a CAI using the hood louvers on a z or GTP? I think that would be a good idea, only problem i see is keeping the rain out.
Crimson Fury Z
get a 3 inch er so cowl, direct the fabricated intake hose above the plenum right at the cowl opening. the air is sucked into that area anyways, and wa laa
WhiteOut
Tearing out headlights might be gay, but its what the SCCA teams did in the early nineties. The performance edge is there it just depends on how ghetto you want to get for the extra horsepower.
93GTP
Why the hell does everyone only say "Aaron has a cold-air-intake". lol, you bastards, I have one too here's a pic (and yes my car is very dirty here, this is before I had it on the road):
GrandPrix34
ILL! look at the welds on the intake! j/k I remember the whole drama behind that...lol Hey how hard and how much time is required to relocate the battery? Yes i know about the SEARCH function but just a quick post would do.
topless94style
Brian89gp spent 6 hrs on relocating the battery. Check out his web site http://www.brian89gp.com to see what is done. Seems pretty strait forward to me. 93gtp, i did not relize you had the CAI and i have seen the pics of yours many times. I will change my post. 93GTP
It does take a bit of time to do a battery relocation. But the only really hard part is finding a good place in the firewall to run the cable through. Like I said before I ran mine when my engine was apart and I had access to everywhere on the firewall, so that wasn't too bad. But obviously most people can't do this, so you have to figure something out. Oh, and yeah the welds aren't the greatest on the intake, I was expecting better... But I'm not going to get all pissed about it and not use it on the car like someone on here (wink wink), because it is a CAI, and it works perfectly. It also doesn't look that bad in person.
