Which would you choose?

When I bought my 95 Cutlass Convertible a few months ago, one item that I wanted to look after soon after was the wheels. The stock 5 spoke wheels on the car were not looked after. Brake dust has destroyed most of the powder coating. They look uneven, blotchy, just not good enough. I am at a time now that I can seriously look at taking care of this.

I have many options. I like the look of the stock wheel, and I can buy "new" wheels from AAA Rims that would freshen up the wheel wells, and maintain the "stock" appearance.

OR

I could look at after market designs of which there are so many and try to change the way the car looks overall.

I am looking for opinions, advise, whatever you have to offer, but keep in mind that I want to maintain the 16" tire size.

Thanks for your imput.

You could probaly pick up a good set of used factory wheels and they would be about the same as new. Also I have american racing estrella wheels and I really like the looks of them. They are only $100 a wheel. Try their website http://www.americanracing.com or http://www.tirerack.com has an application guide where you can see what different wheels will look like on your car.

I like the stock rims. Shine em up real nice they look good. I like the rims on the new gtps, the 5 spoke with the kinda cool design on the spokes. Cant describe it but, if they didnt have the pontiac sign on them id think they would be too bad on my car.

I like the stock looking ones too. The new GP rims are cool. If I ever see a pair cheap in the spring I might grab some up. I have an older GP so the pontiac logo will fit nicley 8)

I would stay with the stock rims if you're set on 16". However, I think they look better hi-polished. I have a friend that has a red Cutty convertible, and his came with the factory 5-spokes in hi-polished. Looks pretty good!

I'd go with the AAA rims, I bought four new rims from them for my 90' Toronado and I couldn't be more pleased with the product or service. It doesn't hurt that I picked them up myself though since I only live half an hour away. I think those rims ran me around $100 apiece.

Or if you want to retain the stock look while being cheap about it you can just refinish your rims. All you'd need to do is strip them down, give them a good polishing with a buffer and some aluminum polish, then clearcoat them with a spay on laquer. Or if you want the more dull silver look that they have stock you'd have to paint them and then clearcoat them. Luckily the stock 5 spoke rims are pretty easy to work on having almost no details or crevices so the process shouldn't take more than a day.

Another (and the cheapest option) would be to PAINT your old wheels. Mine were corroded, the old clearcoat was shitty.. so without much prep work I just painted them with Duplicolor wheel paint and clearcoat.

This is after 1.5 years and a harsh winter

Thats doin pretty good. I did that on a previous car, and I think they looked good for a few months.. winter took a toll on 'em.

I like the stock 5 stars on the Supremes. My Cutlass came with the 5 stars, but I traded a buddy for his shitty "sawblade" rims and he gave me $275. I took that money and bought the spoiler thats on my car.

If you are going aftermarket stick with the 5 star design and keep it simple. My 2 cents
