How do you check timing or use timing light ??????

if by timing you been DOHC timing, then you need a cam hold down tool...

turn the crank till the Harmonic balancer mark is aligned to the timing cover arrow...then take off the front valve cover...use the cam hold down tool to verify that the cam flats are flat...

to check the rear cams, you will have to pull the plenum. Its not difficult so keep your head straight. Then take off the rear valve cover and make sure the cam flats on that side are 180* from the front cams...

in other words while the front cams are |^||^|, the rear should be |V||V|.......

if you mean igntioni timing, there is no way to adjust the ign. timing witout chip programming. All a timing light will do is show spark pattern

on older vehicles, you'd point the timing light at the crank pulley IIRC, and if you have the light attached to plug 1, it'll light up certain parts and tell you what your timing is at (older fords and chev's had degrees stamped on the pulley and the one that's at the top when the light flashes is your current timing advance/retardation
