Redfox340
The Getrag 284's are harder to locate and much harder to repair since parts are not produced. The Getrag 282's are very easy to come by and will hold ton a power for a tranny swap. - Erik

Fiero people blow the diff out the side of the case more then you would think with higher milage ones. Many consider the Isuzu 4 or 5spd, if forget which, to be stronger then the 282 and the are very common.
Dan94Z34
The isuzu manual transmissions are week. The were mated with the 4-cylindar engines, the 2.2 and the 2.0. If you would bolt it on any type of high performace app, it would fly apart. Plus its isuzu, jap stuff. The muncie getrag was made in good ol u s of a. muncie indiana. Guest TurboSedan
The Getrag 282's are very easy to come by and will hold ton a power for a tranny swap. - Erik i'm on my 3rd Getrag 282 now. the one in my '88 2.8 Corsica went, then the '90 in my CS went last August. i wasn't even putting real power thru them nor was i hotrodding the car when they went out. 3rd one is ok so far....but then i've only put maybe 2 blocks of driving on it . can't drive the thing yet until i replace my rear exhaust manifold. the CS is a *little* loud right now :? hopefully this 282 does better; it only has 111,xxx miles. joshua
