mechanic58
Previous owner says the flap or shudder mechanism is broken. When you look down into the cavity through the windshield you can see a small spring laying down inside there. How hard is this to get to? Imp558
Not hard, lets be realistic: if you tear it apart and can't fix it then it needs replaced. If you don't tear it apart and try at all it needs replaced. It's a 0 risk repair attemp either way.
mechanic58
I don’t care if it works or not. If I can get to it relatively easy I might see if I can fix it, but I’m not interested in tearing the whole dash apart.
Imp558
Oh, it's just under the cover maybe 5 minutes to take it out
mechanic58
Got this apart. The adjustable mirror mounts broke off (plastic). They are replacable. I wonder if one can buy parts for these?
Imp558
Epoxy? Melt back together with a soldering iron?
mechanic58
The manufacturer is Nippon-Seiki in Japan. They have website that had contact info for their Displays division. I sent them an email. We’ll see what happens. I’m sure I can ‘fix’ it, but I’d rather just have new parts if I can get em.
mechanic58
Welp, this is fixed. Made some parts instead. digitaloutsider
digitaloutsider
This is a very similar failure to what happens on C5 Corvettes. Shitty plastic that breaks and causes the mirror to fall all the way to one side. mechanic58
