mechanic58 Posted July 8, 2018 Report Posted July 8, 2018 Previous owner says the flap or shudder mechanism is broken. When you look down into the cavity through the windshield you can see a small spring laying down inside there. How hard is this to get to? Quote
Imp558 Posted July 8, 2018 Report Posted July 8, 2018 Not hard, lets be realistic: if you tear it apart and can't fix it then it needs replaced. If you don't tear it apart and try at all it needs replaced. It's a 0 risk repair attemp either way. Quote
mechanic58 Posted July 8, 2018 Author Report Posted July 8, 2018 I don’t care if it works or not. If I can get to it relatively easy I might see if I can fix it, but I’m not interested in tearing the whole dash apart. Quote
Imp558 Posted July 8, 2018 Report Posted July 8, 2018 Oh, it's just under the cover maybe 5 minutes to take it out Quote
mechanic58 Posted July 14, 2018 Author Report Posted July 14, 2018 Got this apart. The adjustable mirror mounts broke off (plastic). They are replacable. I wonder if one can buy parts for these? Quote
Imp558 Posted July 14, 2018 Report Posted July 14, 2018 Epoxy? Melt back together with a soldering iron? Quote
mechanic58 Posted July 14, 2018 Author Report Posted July 14, 2018 The manufacturer is Nippon-Seiki in Japan. They have website that had contact info for their Displays division. I sent them an email. We’ll see what happens. I’m sure I can ‘fix’ it, but I’d rather just have new parts if I can get em. Quote
mechanic58 Posted July 15, 2018 Author Report Posted July 15, 2018 Welp, this is fixed. Made some parts instead. digitaloutsider 1 Quote
digitaloutsider Posted July 15, 2018 Report Posted July 15, 2018 This is a very similar failure to what happens on C5 Corvettes. Shitty plastic that breaks and causes the mirror to fall all the way to one side. mechanic58 1 Quote
