Removing rubber coating from '96 GP dash accents?

I told myself not to let it bug me, but it is...the rubber coating on the dash accents are scratched all over (guessing from the original owner's female fingernails). I want to remove it and paint them satin graphite. Has anyone used some sort of solution that strips the finish off or would I have to sit there and sand all that crap off? It's the only part of the interior that really bugs me.

Yes! Mines doing the same around the radio trim. Would like to refinish it as well. Be interested in hearing some good ideas on this.

I removed the panel and then used lacquer thinner and scrubbing.  All the rubber stuff came off and then I painted the bezels with a rust-oleum paint made for plastic.  Looks great!

Not to bad of a job, the lacquer idea might be the way to go in removing whats there. Goof off would certainly take it off too but will eat into the plastic if left wet for to long. Might not be to bad of an idea since you`ll probably want to sand them anyways.
