W30olds
Anyone running these style rotors on their w-body cars? Pros and cons of them? Thinking about putting them on all 4 corners of my 95 SE. I want to make my car handle a bit better and stop a bit better too. Plus I could feel like a Porsche racer with them! l67ss
I'm running them on my Monte. If I was you I'd swap to 96-99 monte front brakes and struts first W30olds
GTP091
I have cross drilled rotors on my 91 GTP and like them just fine. Cross drilled rotors help to reduce pad glazing, they really help the off gassing and heat dissipation. They don't help brake harder just much less brake fade which is what we want right? On the other hand from what I've heard it seems slotted rotors chew up pads quickly unless you get the best pads you can find. Imp558
Someone here mentioned stress cracks forming from the holes. I'm still planning on running them because they come with the Power Stop kits but they should be inspected at intervals. The thought of half of a rotor shredding the caliper and cracking the spindle like a barbarian with a battle axe is a bit concerning to me. l67ss
I'm on eBay rotors and bargain box pads. I've yet to change rear pads. And no cracks. And long time members can vouch I'm hard on cars lol Psych0matt
Schurkey
Expensive drilled/slotted rotors are typically shitty Chinese white-box rotors that someone throws on a milling machine, put in a fancy four-color box, and moves the decimal on the price tag. Waste of time, money, effort, enthusiasm in most cases. Psych0matt, vipmiller803, digitaloutsider and 1 other

IF they perform and never warp due to this miracle of machining by some odd twist of fate than they will be replaced with similar when the time comes. digitaloutsider
They're a waste of money. I went with drilled/slotteds when I did the F-body conversion. Did Power Stop rotors and pads and I found them to be noisy and didn't feel any appreciable difference in heavy braking. The rotors also warped after about 1,000mi. If my Corvette didn't come with crossdrilled rotors, my Regal sure as shit doesn't need them. sean1991olds, W30olds and Imp558

That's depressing to hear but the Power Stop kit is still just so cheap when compared to sourcing the parts individually. I guess it's true what the owner of Darnell's said in the movie "Christine", "you can't polish a turd". A Chinese rotor with fancy machine work is ultimately still a Chinese rotor. W30olds
Decided to not order the rotors. Just going to replace mine with new autozone rotors and good pads Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Imp558
I remember a guy I knew years ago had done extensive research on rotors (and before the internet like it is btw) he swore NAPA rotors were hands down the best for the money and said he wouldn't feel safe without them. I didn't run out and buy NAPA rotors, just sayin'. Autocross forums would likely be the best source of information because those cats effing know how to abuse rotors. Grandprix1
I have powerstop rotors and pads on mine. Love them. Stops on a dime especially when they get warmed up. When they get wet is when they really aren’t good though. Makes lots of noise and really gotta push on it. Dry weather is fine though. l67ss
I keep hearing people say they're noisy. Never heard so much as a peep from mine. Mebbe cause I don't buy those crap ceremic pads?
GTP091
Ceramic pads are much better for dust and easier on rotor chew; theyre supposed to be quieter than semi metallic which is my experience with them. I put the best wagner ceramic pads I could find for my GTP. I cross drilled my own rotors and think the setup is fantastic. They stop the car very quickly and I don't get hardly any fade when they get hot.
W30olds
I bought ceramic pads yesterday from Autozone. Going to put them on front and rear. The Autozone guy told me they're quieter, less dust and stop great when heated up. He seemed pretty top notch for a Autozone menion. l67ss
Problem with ceremic pads. With heat from friction something has to give. If the pad isn't that means the rotor is wearing. I've run semi metallics on the monte ever since I threw the ceremics that came on it in the trash the first month I had it. Immediately stopped better and more consistent. And I've been on the same rear pads since 2014 vipmiller803
vipmiller803
Agreed on the dust only. They can make less noise because if they're nice enough/engineered right, because they should resonate outside the audible range. Semi-metallics are in the same boat there. The biggest advantage to ceramics is the dust control and they last a little longer, making them eat rotors more. It isn't that they don't produce dust, it just isn't that sooty mess or of the same quantity. Rotor longevity is ultimately the trade-off. Imp558
Is there a consensus on carbon fiber/ceramic pads? That's what comes with the power stop kit.
Schurkey
Thousands of years ago, I put Ceramic pads on my K1500 work truck. Piss-poor stopping power, but they lasted forever. They're the only pads I've owned that I WISHED would wear out so I had an excuse to get rid of them. Seemed to be easy on rotors, they just wouldn't stop worth crap. I've been buying Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads for a couple years now. I have several vehicles with them. Made in USA, seem to work well. GTP091
Ceramic pads are not recommended for trucks or anything that has some weight to stop, they don't bite as hard as metallic. If you get the cheap ceramic pads they are not going to stop very well. I absolutely hate brake dust and it wipes right off with ceramic pads. My brakes are awesome and without dust or hardly any fade. To each his own of course. Imp558 and W30olds
W30olds
I'm enjoying my ceramic pads so far. Stop really well compared to the other pads I used. Quiet and clean. So run whatever pads you like. I'm happy so far with my decision. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Imp558
Imp558
I'm glad to hear from the other side, the Power Stop pads in the kit are probably going to be fine. Especially considering everything will be 3rd gen with the brakes.
l67ss
Pads that were on the monte were fairly expensive. And almost new. Previous owner nearly had a stroke when i told her I threw them away lol
