bluegp Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 Did the 4 speed auto transmission (4T60, 4T60E) become any more reliable by any certain year, or do all of them break sometime after 100K miles? Quote
quaddriver Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 Did the 4 speed auto transmission (4T60, 4T60E) become any more reliable by any certain year, or do all of them break sometime after 100K miles? 89-90 440t4 (before the rename) are historically the most trouble free, even when behind the torquey 3800 in the heavier C bodies. 4l60 aint bad, 4l60E had some teething problems Quote
bluegp Posted December 4, 2003 Author Report Posted December 4, 2003 89-90 440t4 (before the rename) are historically the most trouble free My '89 440T4 went last fall at around 125K miles. The transmission mechanic did say that these ('88-'91, I think he said) were better than the earlier mid 80's ones. So, I guess the later 90's ones never got any better? The reason I ask is because I may try to get another (mid 90's, W-Body preferably) car so I can do some much needed work on my '89. I'd really hate to get something only to have the transmission go a year later. Quote
TeeJay3800 Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 89-90 440t4 (before the rename) Actually the AT440-T4 was renamed the 4T60 for the '90 model year. Quote
