Hey everyone I am a new 95 monte carlo Z34 owner and I have a few issues with the car but I need some guidence on one issue that has come up... I am not a whimp but with brake pedal pressed it is very hard sometimes to push in the trans shifter button in to release from park into drive any help will be greatly appreceated.... :?

Does it happen even when you are not on a hill. I mean mine is sometimes tough in the GP but only when I am no a hill and even then not that bad.

Like, does it take forever for the car to go into gear once the shifter is in the selected gear?

Easy and once you park still with engine running it seams to be easy but if the car is shut off then it is hard again .. my thumb is getting a work out ... once out of "park"... it is fine to all other gears that is why I am hoping there is a adjustment for the parking selector switch..

Sounds like the servo in the shifter is going. Mine gets sticky from time to time. It is there so you can't move outta park with out the brake being in.

Ok .. do you know anything about this servo... where it is located and the cost to replace????

i was able to shift my regal into drive from park without stepping on the brake

Ummm, yeah, but didn't your engine and tranny fall out of your car?

No offense inteneded, Haz. :D

Ok so does anyone have any help for me on replaceing this???? It is getting kind of *#@$%&! to struggle with this evey time I want to take off...

If pressing the brake doesn't work then pull your center console you will know what part I am talking about trust me. It is connected to the selector on the drivers side.

My 96 cutlass used to do that too. Usually the button stayed in and I could move it without the button. Take off the top part of the shifter and clean it up or replace it. Also check the gear shifter and make sure it goes in when you press it. If that doesn't work pound the shit out of it!

Ok ... can I disconnect this without any other issues or do I need to replace it...

Thats because older cars like ours dont have the Brake-Park Interlock. I think thats what its called anyways.

I have been having this same issue lately. I have noticed that it only does it when the vehicle is cold. It takes nearly all of the force one hand can muster to squeeze the damn button to shift. Once the interior warms up, the button/shifter assembly works just fine.

This all started with the cold weather (below 40F) recently. I have a feeling it's not a servo but just within the shiter handle. I'll be busting into it this afternoon and I'll take some pictures if I find out what the cause is.

DaInspector, lemme know what you find out. Thanks :D

That is a tricky situation you have there. My wife had this kind of problem in her Sunfire, but there was more to it. She had to let the car heat up a bit (interior) for it to shift out of park. Also if she went to shut the car off immediately her key would not go back to the off position until the interior was warmed up enough. This went on for about 4 winters in that car, thank god her new Alero doesn't piss her off like the Sunfire did.

UPDATE!!!! I finally took the time to check out my shifter ... I think I have a bad shifter button I took every thing apart and everything works great without the shifter on top so I lubracated everything and seams to work ok now!!!! :P but.. it is very warm out today 60 degrees... so I will try everything tomarrow high 30's

I never did get off my ass to go check it out...maybe this week some time...I'll drop back by when I do  Thanks for the tip, I suspected that lubrication within the shifter may have been an issue.

There's probably a switch behind the brake pedal too, people. Couldn't that be a problem as well?

Its because its cold. There is a thin film of grease, or at least should be, in the whole transmission linkage. It is a long lasting grease, which makes it very viscous below a standard temperature. Kindof like bacon grease, freeze it, its hard as a rock, olive oil, more flexible.

Take the whole thing apart, and clean it with dawn. Then just spray some lithium grease in its place, that should make it smooth as silk.
