GeosGP Posted December 22, 2017 Report Posted December 22, 2017 Hello! Just went to do a search on alternatives to the ZZP mufflers on the catback I just got for my 2004 Comp-G, and GPF is no more. Bummer. Anyways, my name is George and I'm from just south of Fenton, MI. I have my 2004 Comp-G money pit that I just got back from the trans shop. digitaloutsider and wstefan20 2 Quote
FordMan77 Posted December 22, 2017 Report Posted December 22, 2017 Welcome George! Post up some pics of the money pit. Sounds like a nice ride. Quote
GeosGP Posted December 22, 2017 Author Report Posted December 22, 2017 I'll get some pics later. It had to go in because the converter kept cycling, and the trans temp was rising. Turns out that the ZZP converter I put in on the last rebuild in November of last year was coming apart, and it crapped up the fluid. I replaced the converter with a Precision Industries, and it's definitely more loose than that ZZP ever was. The ZZP 3" exhaust I have, while is looks nice, is absolutely deafening on the highway under 90 MPH. Need to figure out what to do with that. Sounds GREAT at idle, but the cabin noise... just... damn. Quote
Marshal Posted December 22, 2017 Report Posted December 22, 2017 details on the zzp catback? they advertise it as being quiet Quote
Imp558 Posted December 22, 2017 Report Posted December 22, 2017 We were kicking around the idea of adding 1/4 wave branch resonators a while back. Quote
GeosGP Posted December 22, 2017 Author Report Posted December 22, 2017 It's a 3" stainless steel system, I got it with the catted downpipe and the resonator as well. It's STILL loud as hell. I've been toying around with the amount of throttle is takes to get rid of the noise, but I have about 30 minutes of highway seat time with it, and I am still adjusting to the converter, as it is way loose compared to the old one. AND trying to hunt down the random misfire. That's fun. Quote

Imp558 Posted December 22, 2017 Report Posted December 22, 2017 I'd like to make a branch resonator with a band clamp extension piece to be able to tune it. Much in the same manner as a saxophone. The math for it isn't really bad without making it adjustable. Quote
Bronco Boy Posted December 22, 2017 Report Posted December 22, 2017 Welcome! For the v-6 guys, there was a guy on GPF a few years ago that made an equal length dual exhaust for his GTP and it sounded pretty good. I found the video. LOL The piping was crazy. Quote
digitaloutsider Posted December 22, 2017 Report Posted December 22, 2017 Welcome! Yeah, the ZZP 3" on my Regal is loud, I'm sure having two outlets make it even worse. And I forgot all about that equal length exhaust car. Quote
GeosGP Posted December 22, 2017 Author Report Posted December 22, 2017 did you go with the zzp resonator and zzp mufflers? Yes I did. I wouldn't have ordered it without the resonator. Turns out that the resonator isn't that good, I guess. Still working on it. Quote
Moozery Posted December 22, 2017 Report Posted December 22, 2017 AND trying to hunt down the random misfire. That's fun. 04 Comp G here too, been hunting my misfire since the day I got the vehicle lol. Still no luck. Welcome to the forums Quote
FordMan77 Posted December 23, 2017 Report Posted December 23, 2017 I installed a long Thrush glasspack in place of my res when it rusted out on my 00 GT. Granted this is on a stock catback but I have no drone and the exhaust note is still quiet so no one hears just how horrible a 3800 sounds under accel, lol. Quote

And I WILL find out where to kill off this misfire. It was part of the reason why the trans ended up failing. Apparently, the constant lock/unlock generates a fair amount of heat, and transmissions hate that. Quote
