ffp chip and going over rev limiter

hey

i know the chip discussion had probably been killed, but i did a search and i didnt get the answers. i am going with the ffp chip soon, but i am wondering the z-34 has the governed 5200 rpm for when the valves float. but it still feels strong up to that point. im wondering if i make the limiter 6000 instead will i get better power band or does the band stop at 5200 anyway. and is it safe to have this high of a rev limit, i know the redline is 7000 but thats too much pressure i think. has anyone done this, or better what are some of your settings. and last will ffp just set me up for the most ideal setting, a compromise of power and safety to the engine?

i have a 5-speed? i know the fuel cuts off at 5200 and then it floats from 5200 to 5500, bobbing kinda. but nothing is wrong i dont think it runs like a champ. any thoughts.

oh, well that says something. i have a 5-speed, the question mark was an accident. I dont know what could be the problem. a bad prom? i just replaced the computer but not the prom, and yeah the fuel cuts off at around 5200. What else would do that? looks like a late night cruise to make sure im not seeing things.

damn i feel stupid. i dont know why i thought that but i was definetly wrong. thanks guys you helped me see the 1300 rpm i never knew i had, even if i did just go through a quarter tank of gas. and yes i will still be buying the chip. :D

Glad to hear it btw Welcome to the board:)

Let us know how the chip works out for you :D

doesnt matter, NO W body is limited to 5200. The 3.4 does NOT have valve float at 5200. If your engine loses power after 5000 RPM, there is a problem with your engine.

you say no w-body is limited at 5200

well my lumi 3.1 when pegged, doesnt shift past 5 grand

My 93 Euro 3.1 shifts at 5500 at WOT everytime, except sometimes when at WOT, right around 4400, its like the fuel is being cut off, like in Nuetral, but its in 1st or second gear, and it doesn't do it everytime, only if i push the car a lot. Anyone know what the problem is with that? Ever since i replaced the front dogbones, it hasn't been as bad but it still does it. Thanks

i have the ffp chip and i think i need one with a higher rev limiter. right now its 7150 but with 3.73 gears the car shifts according to the gauge 7400 out of first and if the car is cold it will bounce off the limiter before it shifts cause it shifts so high. i need a higher rev limiter or lower speeds for shift points and its wierd cause i thought my car would loose power when it goes up that high in rev, but it doesn't it just keeps hallin ass. but i do recomend the ffp chip, i just need a new one

7150 is the highest limiter supported in the chip code. With a different FDR, the shift points need to be lowered to make up for the RPM. Shift points are setup based on MPH, not RPM.

I've got a 3.4 DOHC as well, and I too am getting the FFP chip soon. I reviewed the order form and it asks for me to input certian settings. Does anyone know what would be the best Desired Speed Limiter, Desired Park/Neutral Rev Limiter, and Desired In-gear Rev Limiter for maximum performance I can get without causing any engine or transmission problems. FYI, my car is completely stock except for a K&N filter and intake. I also plan on getting the underdrive pulley and motor mount with the chip. Thanks!

all this talk of rev limiters hmm...my gp with the 3.1 shifts at 6000 when floored usually but on ocassion i've pulled it past 6000 before it shifts...i had it to 6500 a couple times...i swear to god i have a witness...btw i don't have the original computer

when I order mine, I'm going to have the speed limited at 255MPH, and the neutral/in-gear rev limit at 6800 - 6900..... maybe 7K but I doubt it

I would bet your tach is off. My STE shifts at 7500rpms+ (it goes off the end of the marked numbers) according to the tach, but the tach reads a little over 20% high, so that explains it. I am thinking your tach is off a few percent.
