randomandy12
hey i know the chip discussion had probably been killed, but i did a search and i didnt get the answers. i am going with the ffp chip soon, but i am wondering the z-34 has the governed 5200 rpm for when the valves float. but it still feels strong up to that point. im wondering if i make the limiter 6000 instead will i get better power band or does the band stop at 5200 anyway. and is it safe to have this high of a rev limit, i know the redline is 7000 but thats too much pressure i think. has anyone done this, or better what are some of your settings. and last will ffp just set me up for the most ideal setting, a compromise of power and safety to the engine? dykz34
Rev limiter at 5200rpms? Mine shifted at 6200-6300 rpms STOCK. With my chip now, it shifts at ~6800. I think you have other problems that need to be addressed.
randomandy12
i have a 5-speed? i know the fuel cuts off at 5200 and then it floats from 5200 to 5500, bobbing kinda. but nothing is wrong i dont think it runs like a champ. any thoughts. Jasonz34
You do have a 3.4 dohc don't you? and an automatic? Stock mine would shift b/w 6500 to almost 7k rpms when i pushed it
dykz34
There is obviously something wrong. The stock rev limiter for a 5spd DOHC car is 7000rpms. Are you talking about the neutral limiter?
93GTP
My car revs right to 6500 each shift at WOT. Do you have a 5 speed or not? Are you asking yourself?

Vegeta
doesnt matter, NO W body is limited to 5200. The 3.4 does NOT have valve float at 5200. If your engine loses power after 5000 RPM, there is a problem with your engine.
randomandy12
oh, well that says something. i have a 5-speed, the question mark was an accident. I dont know what could be the problem. a bad prom? i just replaced the computer but not the prom, and yeah the fuel cuts off at around 5200. What else would do that? looks like a late night cruise to make sure im not seeing things.
dykz34
Just buy the FFP chip. It'll solve all your limiter problems.
Vegeta
are you sure its a DOHC chip in the computer then?

Vegeta
Thats the tranny shifting, not the computer cutting fuel. My 3.1 would shift at 5600-5800. The limiter is 6212.
Nick1234
My 93 Euro 3.1 shifts at 5500 at WOT everytime, except sometimes when at WOT, right around 4400, its like the fuel is being cut off, like in Nuetral, but its in 1st or second gear, and it doesn't do it everytime, only if i push the car a lot. Anyone know what the problem is with that? Ever since i replaced the front dogbones, it hasn't been as bad but it still does it. Thanks

4spdz34
i have the ffp chip and i think i need one with a higher rev limiter. right now its 7150 but with 3.73 gears the car shifts according to the gauge 7400 out of first and if the car is cold it will bounce off the limiter before it shifts cause it shifts so high. i need a higher rev limiter or lower speeds for shift points and its wierd cause i thought my car would loose power when it goes up that high in rev, but it doesn't it just keeps hallin ass. but i do recomend the ffp chip, i just need a new one
Vegeta
7150 is the highest limiter supported in the chip code. With a different FDR, the shift points need to be lowered to make up for the RPM. Shift points are setup based on MPH, not RPM.
4spdz34
i know they are based on mph and tps not rpm. but i never knew 7150 was the highest supported. learn something evryday
EurosportZ34
I've got a 3.4 DOHC as well, and I too am getting the FFP chip soon. I reviewed the order form and it asks for me to input certian settings. Does anyone know what would be the best Desired Speed Limiter, Desired Park/Neutral Rev Limiter, and Desired In-gear Rev Limiter for maximum performance I can get without causing any engine or transmission problems. FYI, my car is completely stock except for a K&N filter and intake. I also plan on getting the underdrive pulley and motor mount with the chip. Thanks! My STE shifts at 7500rpms+ (it goes off the end of the marked numbers) according to the tach, but the tach reads a little over 20% high, so that explains it. I am thinking your tach is off a few percent.
