New to the forum here and figured it would be a good place to ask these sort of questions.

Is there anything specific I should really keep an eye out for on these cars? I've heard about the manifold having problems every now and then and am wondering if there are any telltale signs something is wrong with it. I see enough of them still chugging around that I'm sure they're not as notoriously bad as everyone says all GM cars are but it doesn't hurt to know, lest there be a very good reason someone is selling one for $500 cad.

Rot, usually rocker panels and rear trailing arm mounts. If it's a 3800 they typically need an intake manifold and CKP 80 - 100,000 miles. If it's a 3100, which it should be and it's got over 40 miles on it it could use head gaskets.

it's also common to find a bad torque converter clutch. if you get the car up to cruising speed you should feel the torque converter clutch engage. if you feel it shuddering gently rest your left foot on the brake pedal and you should feel it kick out. that's a bad torque converter clutch
