Guest Anonymous
Is there any major difference between Dot 3 and Dot 4 brake fluid? I am hoping to get my PM III swapped this weekend. Can I use Dot 4 in the PM III?
ctx46
the rule of thumb is you can alyways use better..... ex, you Can replace your dot III with dot IV, but if your car calls for dot IV you Can't use dot III..... the only eception is with early fords with ABS, dot III has petrolium lubritcants that the pump needs.... dot IV has synthetic additives that will mess wit the pump in a bad way.... crc
Dot 4 tends to really eat away at the seals and o-rings inside the 1st gen PowersterMaster ABS units so I would diffenently stick with Dot 3. Even Dot 3 to a certain degree very slowly degrades the seals. I've had to completely take apart mine and rebuild it after 12 years of brake fluid eating at the seals, which is normal.
