jeremy Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 I have another minor "quirk" with my '97 Cutty. When I put the blinker on, it blinks a couple of times, then it "sticks" for a few seconds, then it blinks again, then "sticks", then blinks.....there is no pattern and it doesn't matter which blinker I use, sometimes they click correctly other times it sticks on, then other times it sticks off.... any ideas? My battery/alternator are less than 1 year old and are working correctly. thanks in advance. Quote
Redfox340 Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 Could be the switch, but if it's a irregular pattern, try replacing the relay first. See where that gets you. - Erik Quote
thedeef Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 it's the switch on the steering column. i had the same problem a year ago and now it's FREAKING BACK. anyway, it probably takes a new part in the switch. deef Quote
91cutty Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 I'd say it's the relay. Our van did the exact same thing when the relay was about to go. Quote
jeremy Posted December 1, 2003 Author Report Posted December 1, 2003 so....where are the switch and the relay located??? also...thanks for the quick replies.... Quote
92turboLE Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 it isnt the switch, it is the flasher itself, not the relay or switch.... i have had this problem many times. the relay only controls where the blinkers flas (right or left) the switch just controls on or off. the flasher is what controls the flashing of it. It is located (at least on mine) kinda above and to the right of the steering column inder the dash. They are 1.99 at checker. Try that first, i would almost promise you thats what it is. - Justin Quote
godofthunder Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 heh...mine just speeds up and slows down, depending on if i am moving or stoped, same think with headlights jon Quote
Slade901 Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 I would also point to failing flasher. I have that same problem before. Quote
jeremy Posted December 1, 2003 Author Report Posted December 1, 2003 I would also point to failing flasher. I have that same problem before. so what does the flasher look like? does it say "flasher" Quote
gmrulz4u Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 Here's a good pic: http://www.trustmymechanic.com/parts_gallery/turn_signal_flasher.htm Quote
godofthunder Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 yeah, and in your CS, if they didnt change from 96->97, it should be right under the steering column, near the peddles jon Quote
Bolt_Crank Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 you need to change your blinker fluid... Quote

My battery/alternator are less than 1 year old and are working correctly. thanks in advance. Check another thing out as well. I am experiencing problems with my signals as well. Check to see if the flash cycle returns if you move the signal lever around. If it does then it might be the switch. If not I would replace the flash module, which is around the steering column, as others have described. See Jeremy, isn't it nice to have some help and answers instead of some smart ass remarks.... Cheers and good luck. Quote
jeremy Posted January 7, 2004 Author Report Posted January 7, 2004 answers are nice too moving the lever around didn't effect it at all though..... Quote
Ribbie Posted January 7, 2004 Report Posted January 7, 2004 answers are nice too moving the lever around didn't effect it at all though..... Only you can ultimately answer the question as we are not in your car. Seems to point toward the flasher module, replace it. From what someone else said it is cheap. D Quote
