DIC for my International.

Oops, I meant DIS for my International.  I want to add the DIS from my 89 parts car to my 91 International.  Manic said this is a very rare option that a lot of cars never got from factory in 91.  Would it be blasphemy to do this?  I don't know how options added to a car affect it's value or if it's frowned upon.  Should I just leave it alone or does it even really matter?

Originality does not matter with these cars. You should be plug and play. I added a DIS to my 1994 CSC.

I figured that I'm adding to the car and not taking any options away so it won't hurt it's value.  I'm going to try this project soon, maybe this weekend.  I've be told it's 1 of 1 in rarity so just wanted to get opinions about it.

I don't think an option like the Driver Information System would hurt the value.. might even help it..

and it's a factory correct option.. kind of like changing a cassette radio to a factory CD radio, it looks original even though not originally ordered when the car was built..

 

 

I'd like to add one to my car, but not sure if its plug and play simple? I know by 1994 the option was no longer offered and I believe I might need a unique housing since I have the HUD, and the HUD and DIS was like super rare in the years offered together?

I have only seen one car in person that had HUD, and a DIS. It is a rare option combination.

If it's plug and play does that mean 100% reversable? Or do you have to cut the dash or splice wires? If it's 100% reversable then you can always go back stock if you want. If you need to cut the dash bezel you could always source another bezel and keep it on hand. If you have to splice wiring.....

A 1991 International should have a plug behind the ECC. No wires will have to be cut or spliced. The storage tray will need to be removed, and the tray from the 1989 parts car will need to be added.

So everything is reversable right? If so, then go for it.

Never thought about it being reversible!  That's great.  If for some reason I don't want it, I can always go back to not having it, smart.  Thanks guys. 

 

I think it would look cool having it next to the HUD adjuster.  I would loose my cubby but not a big deal.  My 89 car is not salvageable body wise so I want to utilize any parts I can off of it.  It's great that I don't have to do any major surgery wiring it in too.  I'll post pics of how it turns out, hopefully this weekend.

I agree. One of the things I love about these cars is that many parts are interchangeable and you can add options your car didn't come with or change little things to make it your own. There seems to be more emphasis on originality in the 60s/70s (and now 80s) collector world than in the w-body world, for now. I firmly believe some of the w-bodies will become collectable one day and the original ones will be the most sought after. Just for the record, I'm not keeping my CSC because I'm waiting for it to become collectible. I'm 47 years old and I've owned a lot of cars during that time and my CSC is, by far, the most enjoyable car I've ever owned. I guarantee you if my CSC ever gets totaled, it will become a parts car for the next CSC I buy. Edited by MemphisMan

I definitely fall into the category of keeping things original or the factory look.  I know they did make very few 91 Internationals with this option so why not add it to mine!  I can always put it back to true originality if I choose.

That DIC is cool! Strange that they chose to mount a gauge like thing so low. The Monte has it in the ceiling like that's actually in the driver's field of vision or something.

I get those confused for some reason, thank you.  I don't mind it being so low but it does steal the space for the cubby which I've come to find I use the hell out of on my new truck.

DIS is Driver Information System. DIC is Driver Information Center.

I guess I'm going to call it DIS since it says that on the actual computer face.

Keep in mind, the same marketing team that named that also thought "Dual Twin Cam", and Quad 4 were good engine names...

So here's what I'm dealing with on the DIS for the 91 International.  Not sure how to wire it in.  I still have the wiring in the 89 International car that I can transfer over.

This is the jumbled up mess for the aftermarket shitty radio that was in the car when I bought it.  The three big grey and black square connectors are for the ECC.

Another shot of the splicing done by the previous owner.  I assume this is where I might tie the DIS into somehow?  I think the wires for the speaker might be here too.  That would explain the front and back stickers for the speakers maybe.
