Dizzy Posted May 31, 2017 Report Posted May 31, 2017 Its sad that this will be my first post on this forum but here we go. I have a 95 Grand Prix SE I managed to find a 96 GTP in a local junkyard and was able to get the entire HUD assembly and DIC, today i went to go slap them into my car only to find that the wiring the for the those things isnt there, ive searched all throughout the dash taking off all the panels i could but wasnt able to find the connectors, so im guessing me being unlucky i got a car that wasnt wired for them but i wanted some confirmation on that. Onto the instrument cluster, being as my engine swap is done (for now) i was looking at my cluster and realized that its hideous, i tried swapping needles with the 04 style but (as im sure you know but i found out the hard way) they didnt fit. So this leads me to wonder is it possible to swap in a different cluster entirely? Maybe from a newer GP or anything really. Im not afraid of wiring but i would need the pinouts for the 95 as my AllData subscription ended. I look forward to your thoughts and opinions Thanks Dizzy Quote
l67ss Posted May 31, 2017 Report Posted May 31, 2017 I'm not sure the dic will work as 96 is obd2 and your 95 is obd1. Hud will work tho. And a Lotta guys will trade a 95 doc for a 96 dic Quote
digitaloutsider Posted May 31, 2017 Report Posted May 31, 2017 The DIC is not gonna work unless you've converted the car to OBD-II with your L67 swap. It requires an OBD-II data stream, IIRC. Did you see the thread I linked to in that shitstorm of a Facebook post? Someone with a 95 GP was asking about HUD/DIC pigtails and the general consensus was they're very, very well hidden. It seems like to me that only certain option groups would trigger the car getting the pigtails from the factory. How base is this car? Quote
l67ss Posted May 31, 2017 Report Posted May 31, 2017 If I was near my parts stash I have a 95 gtp dic Quote
Imp558 Posted May 31, 2017 Report Posted May 31, 2017 I'm pretty sure those stll used uart serial data, I had a 97 dic at one time. A little later today I'll post the schematics. You still have to wire it in. Quote
Imp558 Posted May 31, 2017 Report Posted May 31, 2017 You're good. No data at all to the Hud, and obdi serial data uart to the dic. Quote
digitaloutsider Posted May 31, 2017 Report Posted May 31, 2017 I'm trying to find old threads, but I am almost 99% confident none of the fuel data works if you try to put a 96 DIC in a 95 and vice versa. Quote
Imp558 Posted May 31, 2017 Report Posted May 31, 2017 (edited) 1995 looks the same to me even the resistance on the fuel sending unit Edited May 31, 2017 by Imp558 Quote
Dizzy Posted May 31, 2017 Author Report Posted May 31, 2017 Yes the car will be full obd2 after I finish wiring the connector up so no issues there. The car was was pretty basic no abs has cruise control didnt have the power seat or The overhead map lights I swapped the interior from my wrecked 96 into the currwnt car because the interior was so basic and ugly so I'm guessing I'm screwed on plug amd play Quote
Imp558 Posted May 31, 2017 Report Posted May 31, 2017 I'll do some good screenshots and post so you have good prints when you're ready, it shouldn't be bad. You should be able to do this project now. Luke94vert 1 Quote
Dizzy Posted May 31, 2017 Author Report Posted May 31, 2017 That would be great. As I mentioned I would have all the diagrams but my all data subscription just ended and I don't have the money to renew right now Quote
White93z34 Posted June 1, 2017 Report Posted June 1, 2017 I forget whats different but you need a year specific DIC, I know for awhile a 1996 DIC was a hot commodity since it was a one year only thing, where 94-95 ones were fairly common. Though I just noticed your sig says you have L67 swap, which would mean OBD2, which might mean that it would work digitaloutsider 1 Quote
RobertISaar Posted June 3, 2017 Report Posted June 3, 2017 I'm pretty sure those stll used uart serial data, I had a 97 dic at one time. A little later today I'll post the schematics. You still have to wire it in. data is arranged differently in the stream, though it's still 8192 baud UART. digitaloutsider 1 Quote
Imp558 Posted June 3, 2017 Report Posted June 3, 2017 Hell, I'd wire a cigarette lighter plug on it and shove the data wire in pin m on the aldl and see what happens. It would make for an interesting post. Quote
