How to remove Throttle Body

Recommended Posts

How does one go about removing the throttle body on the L36 Grand Prixs? I bought a throttle body spacer and heat shield from ZZP but can't seem to figure it out. Is it as easy as just unbolting it or do you have to remove the throttle connection some how? Also how much coolant am i going to loose?

Thanks

You wont lose any coolant and it should only be 2 maybe 3 bolts and it will pop off. The old gasket may be making it stick, and you can leave the throttle cables attached. I was able to do so on my L67 fairly easy.

Ok thanks. Ive heard on the NA cars such as mine there is a braket that connects to the bottom of them and goes down to the exhuast cross over pipe which needs to be removed. Hopefully thats not the case. I probably should have bought another gasket to go with it but i didnt so ill be gentle with the current gasket. ZZP says its reusable.

My L36 didn't have a bracket. You might have a little coolant but there shouldn't be enough to worry about that high. The TPS, IACV, and MAF may need unplugged to get it tfree enough to move off the studs.

So it seems kinda touch and go by the car. When I get a warm day I'll go out and take it all apart and see what I'm dealing with

My car does have the brace. How ever it's on the side of the TB not under neath. It's 1 bolt. Now we will see what the heat shield and throttle body spacer do. I'll probably end up removing it completely

If I get around to it would anyone be interested in a write up on how to install a TB spacer? Should be common sense but someone might find it useful

Yeah it's got studs. Just barely fits with the spacer and heat shield. It seemed to make a difference in power. TB is no longer hot to the touch.
