Grandprix1
Has anyone ever done the F Body Brake Upgrade on the Grand Prixs? Im looking into upgrading my brakes and found on ZZP that there is a kit to upgrade to 12" Rotors with F Body Dual Piston calipers. What do you guys think? Psych0matt
Get the 06 impala dual piston brakes, they should bolt right up rich_e777
94 olds vert
Get the 06 impala dual piston brakes, they should bolt right upYup, and then get GM rotors. GM Part number is 18021015 . You will need different caliper brackets,GM P/N 18029829. That is a cheaper, and just as effective brake upgrade. Edit: that is all 12 inch stuff from GM on the same platform so it bolts up. The Fbody swap requires drilling, threading, and who knows what else. jake91
Did the SS swap on my Gtp best mod ever. I used the powerstop kit for a 06 impala ss it is the way to go. $253 and you get new rotors, calipers and brackets best bang for your buck. It all bolts right up you just have to bend the break line a bit at the caliper to clear the bleeder screw. http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=4751583&cc=1440301&jnid=543&jpid=4 Edited February 6, 2017 by jake91 05impalaSS and Imp558
digitaloutsider
I have the F-body brakes on my car, I like them. However, the rotors ZZP supplies are dog shit. I didn't buy their kit, I instead pieced mine together with junkyard calipers, and holy shit are those drilled/slotted rotors trash. Also, I'd have a very hard time paying $200 for what they give you: two modified calipers, some bolts, some crush washers, and cheap pads. Go to the junkyard and pull the calipers off a 4th Gen, just make sure the bleeders open. The F-body swap DOES NOT involve tapping or drilling. Just buy the sleeve from McMaster-Carr that goes inside the caliper bracket bolt holes. I'd do the SS/GXP swap if I found the parts in the yard. Grandprix1
Ok. I'm a little nervous about taking calipers out of the JY just cause I don't know if they are working or the internals are in decent shape. If my cousin still has his 4th gen SS brake calipers I'll grab those. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

And alot easier to prep for paint Nothing against JY stuff when you needed it yesterday though, saved me plenty of times. Grandprix1
Yeah that is true. My brakes really aren't bad until you start over heating them. That's more of a pad and rotor issue then a caliper issue. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes I guess that's true. So In the long wrong it may save you money actually. What I like about the stock current ones is how hard they bite when they are cold Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Grandprix1
Would those impala SS brakes fit on stock 16" wheels? I feel like they won't cause the stock single pistons just barely fit Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

W30olds
Will the Evolution kit sold by Rock Auto fit on a 1995 GP? I tried to ask the sales guy at rock auto and he was dumb as a rock and rude. So I got pissed and hung up on the moron. Grandprix1
I'm probably going to pull some jy calipers and put on. Any things to look for? How much should they run me? I'm getting brand new rotors and SS lines as well Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
digitaloutsider
Make sure you can break the bleeder loose before you even bother removing them. I personally wouldn't pay more than $20-25 for a junkyard caliper. The Camaro ones I bought for the Regal ran me like $12 a piece.

It will give you a bit more play as they are at the limit with the stock length
W30olds
Unfortunately no 2nd gen cars only Thanks for the reply. That sucks. Wish there were more aftermarket parts available for the 1st Gen cars. Guess I'll just work on the GTO instead. Thanks again for the info. Grandprix1
I was looking at rock auto at the rear kit for the Grand Prix so everything matches. It's coming up with a bolt pattern on the rears as a 5x117. The bolt pattern on my 02 is a 5x115. Could this be a miss type on their end or are the rears different? Imp558
That's a typo, I don't think 117 even exist. Every now and then you'll see 5×114.3, that's a ford pattern that is close enough to interchange with 5×115.

I'd do the rear kit just so the calipers match and the rotors match and have a fresh set up all the way around
